Food🍟: The food industry has been through a variety of trends over the years but if there's one thing that's evident in 2023: A shift towards sustainable food.
Given the undeniable impact of climate change, in 2023 we expect to see a rise in demand for brands and food items produced in sustainable ways.
Today’s consumers are more environmentally conscious and not afraid of rejecting businesses that don't meet their sustainability standards.
This trend comes from an increasing awareness of unethical practices in the food industry and customers not wanting to be a part of it.
Just last year, leading fast-food brands like Chipotle, which have increased public pressure, launched a "Real Foodprint" tracker.
The first-of-its-kind app gives users a glimpse into the brand's revamped sourcing efforts- from gallons of water saved to antibiotics that were avoided in their ingredients.
This will also enable users to assess the impact of their orders. Like, just what is the environmental impact of Chipotle's "Keto Lifestyle Bowl" ?
P.S We had our first Keto bowl today and have to admit.. this "Lifestyle thing" sounds like something Gwyneth Paltrow would sell us via Goop on the condition that it'll activate our Inner Chakras 🧘🏻♀️
A heaping splat of guac, cheddar, sour cream, red-chili salsa with fajitas & 2-3 scattered lettuce.. So, you basically have to eat a godawful amount of daily calories from fat until you burn enough fat to enter 'ketosis'.. 🤔
Yep.. doesn't make sense to us either
Our Thoughts💡: Sure, we're all for sustainable food and environmental trackers but there's another tracker we care about- Time
Jimmy from UberEats better be meeting his soulmate at McDonalds, because according to my UberEats tracker, he's been there with my cheeseburger for over a damn hour
Business x Culture 📈: Did you know nearly 900,000 women have quit their job due to menopause?
The global population of menopausal and postmenopausal women is projected to reach 1.2 billion by 2030.
With numbers like these, menopause is fast becoming an opportunity for big business.
“Femtech,” an industry with an estimated market size of at least $500mn, aims to offer treatments to ease menopause symptoms and delay its onset, McKinsey reports.
Just recently, global fashion brand Primark launched its first-ever menopause clothing line, designed to ease symptoms like hot flashes.
It's clear the phenomenon is becoming less stigmatized in 2023.
We predict an increasing number of conversations around menopause and what both doctors and companies can do to spread awareness and improve access to high-quality healthcare for women globally.
Our Thoughts💡: Ladies, have you ever noticed 'Menstruation', 'Mental stress', 'Menopause' all start with MEN....... ?!
JUST SAYIN 🤷🏻♀️
Weather: ‘Extreme Event’: Warm January weather breaks records across Europe. At least 8 countries experience record ‘almost unheard of heat’, The Guardian reports.
“Take the case of July 2022 UK extreme heatwave and spread this magnitude in a much huger area, encompassing about 15 countries”
“The speed of global heating [..] a glimpse of a future that will see winter reduced to a couple of months of mild weather, with little in the way of frost, ice or snow.”
This raises the question if games like the Winter Olympics will even be possible in the 22nd century?!
Only one of 21 previous Winter Olympics locations would be able to host the Games if the climate crisis continues.
“No sport can escape the impacts of a changing climate."
Our thoughts: Unbelievable, right?! Imagine we could lose the most prestigious celebration of the winter (also, the only time to binge on cheese fondue and hot chocolate- complete with toasted marshmallows, meringue and whipped cream- in the name of sports! )
One more reason to act FAST against climate change!
