Quick Bites:
Business 🌎 : Patagonia founder, has donated the entire company worth $3bn, to fight climate change.
Shop Patagonia, Save the World lmao
In a letter to shareholders, rock climber-turned-billionaire- Yvon Chouinard wrote: "Earth is now our only shareholder"
Chouinard is transferring ownership of the the outdoor apparel company he founded almost 50 years ago, to a newly created Patagonia Trust and a non-profit organization.
The mandate is to give all profits (roughly $100mn/year) to fight the climate crisis, NY Times reports.
Meanwhile, Patagonia heirs still reeling from the news👇🏻
“I never wanted to be a businessman,” Chouinard said, adding that he only realized the “extent of global warming and ecological destruction, and our own contribution to it” once he entered the apparel industry.
“The Earth’s resources are not infinite [..] But we can save our planet if we commit to it.”
Finally a billionaire who isn't a frustrated astronaut who couldn't hack it! p
Hey @Elon, this is what a compassionate billionaire does instead of creating a gigantic fuss over the new Lord of the Rings 👋
Our Thoughts💡: While the headlines going around are "Patagonia founder rejects billionaire status to save Earth", has anyone realized Chouinard's big donation is sparing him a WHOPPING $700mn in taxes?
Yep, we stick by what we've ALWAYS said👇🏻
TAX. THE. F**KING. RICH.
Monarchy 👑 : Queen Elizabeth II had her State Funeral in London yesterday.
Buckingham Palace released a new (and final) portrait to mark Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee- the 1st British Monarch to reach this milestone.

💡2,000 dignitaries and guests attended, ranging from King Charles III and other royals to world leaders like President Biden and New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern
💡10,000 police officers were on duty; the “hugely complex” policing operation was the biggest in London’s force history
💡5 miles of people lined up to file past the Queen’s coffin in Westminster Hall
💡22 miles of barriers erected in central London alone to control crowds and keep key areas secure
💡2,868 diamonds, along with 17 sapphires, 11 emeralds, 269 pearls, and 4 rubies, sparkled in the Imperial State Crown that rested on the Queen’s flag-draped oak coffin
💡Monday was declared a public holiday in honor of Elizabeth, who died Sept. 8- as thousands of people descended to central London to partake in the historic moment

Business📈: Tech loses talent to Wall Street.
Silicon Valley and Wall Street firms have been fighting to hire the top tech talent in the world for years.
Hedgefunds have been losing given the rise of Google, Apple and Meta over the past 2 decades- but engineers are now returning to finance, the Financial Times reports.
This news is indicative of the dwindling tech job market:
💡Meta recently announced its cutting back on hiring
💡Google CEO Sundar Pichai warned its "slowing down the pace of hiring" citing "the uncertain global economic outlook"
💡Twitter let go of 1/3 of its recruiters, according to Reuters.
While tech firms are laying off employees, banks and exchanges are looking to expand.
“We definitely have seen an influx in candidates coming from big tech, crypto, and top-tier startups”
-Josh Woods, head of systematic trading at Citadel Securities.
“It was easy for engineers with work from home to change jobs- they just needed to log into a different computer”
-A senior executive to The Financial Times
Our Thoughts💡: The tables are turning once again. Have any of you noticed an influx of tech talent in the finance world?

Environment🌱: Scientists find the oldest heart in the world.
The heart, which was recently retrieved from a rock formation in Australia, belongs to a 380 million-year old fish, Weather Channel reports.
Key Highlights from the Weather Channel:
💡The heart belongs to the class of armoured jawed fish known as the 'Gogo fish'
💡A fossilised stomach, intestine and liver were also found beside the heart
💡The specimens were scanned using neutron beams and x-rays
💡The scans revealed the heart had 2 chambers, one on top of the other, just like those in higher vertebrates
💡The intestines were coiled, the stomach was glandular with a layer of muscles and the large liver helped the fish to remain afloat
"These fish literally have their hearts in their mouths and under their gills. just like sharks today"
"For the first time, we see all organs together in a jawed fish, and surprisingly there were not so different from us"
