Amazon x Dua Lipa 🍭
This Week in Review ☕️ : The New Alexa to bring you your Morning Macchiato | Haute Couture returns to the Runway | These are the New Superfoods | Black History Month begins in the UK | Facebook Outage
Quick Bites:
Big Tech 🤖 : Amazon just revealed its new home robot- "Astro". Offered by invitation only, the knee-high robot will cost a cool $999.
"The device is always recording sound and video" and can also be sent to check up on other rooms while you're away.
For what..? So, someone can hack us watching Kardashians & stuffing Taco Bell Chicken Chalupas? Nice try Amazon, but we don't think so 👋
Atleast 4 years in the making, Astro was showcased during the company's annual fall event. The tech giant predicts all homes will have robots in 5-10 years.
Astro delivers reminders, picks up food, plays music, brings you your morning macchiato. Basically, an Alexa with wheels that follows you around.
Long story short, we're screwed. Monumentally screwed.
Our Thoughts💡: How to convince users to buy a stalking device?
Make it CUTE
On a side note: Amazon Prime Day's around the corner and there'll be deals on sale for meaty savings.
Like Thanksgiving leftovers, you can't enjoy Pumpkin Pie & Turkey-everything bliss forever, so grab em' while you can. There's no knowing how long they'll last..
Fashion 👠 : After a Corona-virus related pandemic, Paris Fashion Week is back in full swing.
While burgeoning high-end designers returned to the runway, it wasn't a return to 'business as usual' just yet.
Key Highlights:
💡Versace and Fendi, two separate and iconic fashion houses, launched a joint collection. Dua Lipa (shown below) crushin' the game in the sheer "Fendance" dress. Sexy from the front, the back and even the damn sides 👇🏻
💡Cos held its first-ever fashion week show
💡Rodarte did a "cathartic" show in New York celebrating art, freedom and movement
💡Altuzarra presented a "see now, buy later" show with 14 exclusive pieces to Amazon Luxury Stores and the brand's own website for a limited time
💡Oscar de la Renta unveiled a digital presentation with cameos from Paris Hilton and music from Billie Eilish
💡Balenciaga teamed up with video game Fortnite to present Balenciaga's Fall 2021 collection (shown below)
Our Thoughts💡: Personally, we'd like to thank the Amazon Live Team for allowing us to experience the magic of the catwalk from the comfort of our couch- and comfy pjs!
Culture 🔊 : You might remember waking up everyday last year with our social media feeds shrouded in black posts.
Once again this October, the world has risen to show solidarity for another infection besides the Coronavirus- Racial Inequality. And this one has been around for a lot longer than Covid-19.
Black History Month began in the UK this past Friday with a 'Proud to be' campaign.
To mark the first day- October 1st, towns across the UK raised the pan-African flag.
In Cardiff city centre, a statue of Wales’ first black schoolteacher, Betty Campbell, was unveiled, The Guardian reports.
From exhibitions and poetry to comedy shows and cuisine, Black History Month is a time to celebrate black achievements throughout history and modern day.
Especially after George Floyd's death being the final straw in sparking widespread unrest across the world last year.
Our Thoughts💡: Personally, we don't think Black History should be restricted to just one month in the calendar.
There are many untold stories of great black people from all walks of life who are absolute trailblazers in their chosen fields!
There's a role for everyone in this movement, so let's keep raising the standard and keep the momentum going! Happy Black History all.year.long!
Food 🍇 : "Black foods" are the new superfood. From a detoxification standpoint, foods with a pigment called anthocynanin, are healthier for the human body.
These pigments have rich antioxidant properties which reduce the risk of cancer and heart problems, Times Food reports.
Benefits of Black Foods according to Times Foods:
💡Black Walnuts: Rich in ellagic acid; has cardio-protective effect
💡Black Rice: Cancer-fighting properties due to their fiber content
💡Black Figs: Effective in weight loss and balances blood pressure
💡Black Grapes: Contain compounds like Lutein and Zeaxanthin which prevent retinal damage
💡Black Garlic: has more of a compound called S-Allylcysteine which is better than regular garlic
Our Thoughts💡: Just stay away from Black Licorice y'all. Tastes like the medicine NyQuil or Jagermeister. Candy-like sweet at first, but what follows after a few...🙈
PS. How much time before someone changes this into a racial issue?
