Anti-Vaxxers 💉
This Week in Review☕️ : Heineken comes under fire | Dunkin Donuts and Delta Airlines | Ariana Grande partners to give away free therapy | Da Vinci sketch sells for record price | BlackRock and Goldman
Quick Bites:
Advertising 🍺 : A Heineken ad showing a bunch of fully vaccinated senior citizens partying causes controversy.
The minute-long video ends with the message "The night belongs to the vaccinated. Time to join them."
The bold move has led the Dutch company to openly position itself in the pro-vaccination camp, as a result- infuriating anti-vaxxers.
Way too many sensitive Sallys in this world. Drink the beer and stfu
From free incentives to mandatory policies, top CEOs are heading the fight against anti-vaccine sentiment.
We mean, it definitely doesn't help that Krispy Kreme, Budweiser and Nathan's Hot Dogs are offering free doughnuts, beer and weiners to everyone who got the jam.
Which, tbh, is fantastic news for anyone who wants to avoid the virus but still has an obesity wish.
Besides Heineken, some other large corporations mandating vaccinations:
💡Morgan Stanley: bars all unvaccinated employees (& clients) from its NYC offices
💡BlackRock: bars all unvaccinated employees on Wall Street
💡Goldman Sachs: requires all staff to disclose vaccination status before office return
💡Unilever: CEO Alan Jope is urging employees to get jabbed. In addition, the company’s doctor to promote inoculation twice a month.
💡United and Delta Airlines: requires all new hires to be vaccinated
💡The Broadway production of Hamilton
💡Department store Saks Fifth Avenue
💡Michelin-star restaurant Eleven Madison Park
Our Thoughts💡: Meanwhile, #BoycottHeineken is trending (as expected).. But hey, don't look at us
We like our Heineken how we like our vaccines! Multiple times a year!
Meanwhile, we'll have a Corona, please.
(someone had to do it)
Space 🚀 : Sir Richard Branson successfully reached the edge of space and landed safely back on Earth on his Virgin Galactic plane.
"I've done some ridiculous things in my lifetime. That was truly, truly, truly ridiculous"
-Richard Branson
To all the naysayers, imagine a world without dreamers..just for a single moment.
The #Unity22 crew soared more than 50 miles above the New Mexico desert in the vehicle's 1st fully crewed test flight that took off on Sunday.
When leaders and billionaires put their skin in the game, public trust in the vision is strengthened.
It's just a matter of times before space flights become blasé. It might be only billionaires for now, but not forever.
Tickets have sold for $250,000 each, and the company has collected $80mn in sales and deposits, WSJ reports.
Well, it's certainly a good thing he doesn't pay taxes or he'd never be able to afford his very own space program.
Branson's message to the world from space👇🏻
Our Thoughts💡: Does anyone care about the Richard Branson vs Elon Musk vs Jeff Bezos pissing competition for the Race to Space? We find it as mind-numbing as the Americas cup.
Art 🖼 : A Leonardo da Vinci drawing the size of a postage stamp sells for $12.2mn at Christie's.
Estimated to be more than 500 years old, the artwork titled "Head of a Bear" is the study of a bear's head and measures less than 8 square inches.
“These prices are absurd,” Jean-Luc Baroni, an Old Master drawing dealer, told the New York Times.“OK, it’s a Leonardo. But it’s so tiny."
While da Vinci is best known for his oil paintings from the "Mona Lisa" to "Salvator Mundi", the Italian artist is also famous for his sketches.
His drawing "The Vitruvian Man"-a mathematically proportionate diagram of the human body, is considered one of his greatest works, CNN.
"Head of a Bear" might be small but it is perhaps one of the last "important works from the Renaissance still in private hands”
“It’s a huge rarity in itself"
Our Thoughts💡: Rarity or not, people have lost their marbles! $12mn for the size of a post-it note?!
ABSURD!
Celebs x Mental Health 🧠 : Ariana Grande teams up with digital counseling app 'Better Help' to give away $3mn in free therapy.
Ok, how can I sign up my ex for the giveaway?
Thanks to Ari, the fix to your meltdowns will no longer be just for the "privileged few" who can afford the help.
The Silicon Valley enterprise which matches those seeking help with a licensed therapist is offering one month free on its app.
Better Help is also offering 15% off the 2nd month for anyone who chooses to continue their treatment.
"It's okay to ask for help and rid your minds of any self-judgement in doing so"
-Ariana Grande
Our Thoughts💡: Sweetener by Ariana Grande is our free therapy
Sports 🥎 : Olympic Games to be held without spectators this year in Tokyo.
The reverse decision comes after Tokyo entered a 4th state of emergency as Covid-19 cases rose across the capital.
Hmm.. 1700 cases in a country of 127mn isn't really an "emergency".
Also, Tokyo currently has 900 cases per day which is only 0.0064% of the 14mn population.
We thought the Japanese were good at math?.. Alrighty then.
"I feel heartbreaking grief about this decision [..] this was the only choice available for us to take," said Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike.
Meanwhile in the US.. the games are in full swing! Just wait for the numbers from that preposterous display at the Stanley Cup Finals Game 5 in Tampa last week! Jam-packed and not a SINGLE mask in sight! 🤢
Our Thoughts💡: Enough of this effing' virus! LET US LIVE OUR LIVES ALREADY!!
PS. Tug-of-War was an Olympic sport in the early 1900s.
