Food 🐟 : A 'Blue Foods' Revolution is on the horizon.
With the global population expected to hit 10bn by 2050 and the climate crisis torpedoing our food production system, a food crisis is brewing, LinkedIn News reports.
“Blue foods” which consist of fish, algae, mussels and aquatic plants may be the answer to feeding the world.
Like Omicron wasn't enough to take us all out tf. Now we gotta eat crap that makes our mouth the color of anti-freeze 🥶
Blue foods offer both nutritional and environmental benefits.
For example, Algae's protein content is higher than traditional sources like chicken, cottage cheese and meat, and it can be grown without arable land.
Seagrass is capable of capturing carbon 35 times faster than tropical rainforests and can even be used as an alternative to rice.
“Even though aquaculture production has continued to grow [..] the potential of the world’s seas to provide sustainable food remains largely unused,” a researcher says.
Experts do believe we will see more blue foods available at local grocers in 2022.
Art 🖼 : Calling all oligarchs and billionaires!
In terms of auction sales, Pablo Picasso continued to dominate in 2021.
His portrait- Femme assise près d'une fenêtre (Marie-Thérèse), 1932 was the most expensive painting sold at $103.4mn.
It took just over 15 minutes for the hammer to go at $90mn at Christies Auction House.
Finally, after an intense bidding war between 2 collectors on the phone, the portrait crossed the $100mn mark.
2022 🌎 : Just because New Years is known as a major night to hit the town doesn't mean you have to buy into all the hype.
For some of us, this NYE came with a healthy dose of dread and disappointment.
The spread of Omicron prompted countries to dim NYE celebrations for a 2nd consecutive year.
Let's look at the global restrictions on NYE + whats remains to be the current situation at the moment, reported by Sky News:
💡France: The Paris fireworks display on the Champs-Elysees were cancelled. Nightclubs across the country are also closed.
💡Sydney: The fireworks at the harbour took place- just with fewer spectators than usual. Most viewing areas were capped by the council and required tickets.
💡New York: The iconic Times Square ball was dropped but on a much smaller scale. Everyone who attended was required to wear a mask.
💡UK: The display around the London Eye was cancelled as was a party in Trafalgar Square for 6,500 people.
Nightclubs were closed in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland for NYE.
💡Brazil: Rio's fireworks on Copacabana Beach came back on after previously being cancelled.
With more than 618,000 COVID-related deaths recorded, Brazil has one of the worst death tolls from the pandemic, but so far only 77 Omicron cases have been confirmed.
💡India: Nighttime curfews prevented celebrations from taking place in large cities including New Delhi and Mumbai.
💡Italy: Concerts and clubs were shut and public events in Italy's squares were also banned on New Year's Eve.
