Quick Bites:
Food 🍔 : Anyone craving a Big Musk and Fries?
In 2018, Elon Musk tweeted:"Gonna put an old school drive-in, roller skates & rock restaurant at one of the new Tesla Supercharger locations in LA."
While, we're all used to Musk's bizarre tweets, seems like this one might be a reality after 3 years on ice.
Tesla files trademark for use of its logos and branding in "restaurant services", hinting at a food concept, Bloomberg reports.
PS. If it isn't vegan, the Bay Area crowd is gonna roast Elon 😂
Tesla's Supercharger tech can add up to 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes, raising the all-important question: Do you want extra ketchup with your fries?
Industry insiders speculate Tesla is considering to add Food & Drink service options to its charging stations.
A drive-through cheeseburger could be a retro-style solution to charge EVs, we guess?
According to new research, 1 in 5 electric vehicle owners switched back to gas because charging their cars is a hassle, Business Insider reports.
Our Thoughts💡: Hmm.. the very thought of a MuskBuger makes us queasy. God forbid, we order food there and get killed by a driverless meal.
But while we're at it, we'll take a High-Voltage Burger, Solar Nuggets + a large Electron Fries. Oh, and a side order of charge my EV, please.
Donuts 🍩 : Krispy Kreme files for IPO. Plans to trade on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange under ticker 'DNUT'.
The company claims its had its best year ever in the pandemic; over $1bn in net revenue.
And a million Americans gained weight. Hello, Insulin levels 💉
Krispy Kreme says it's not a restaurant but "an affordable indulgence".
White flour, heart-stopping saturated fat, corn syrup, sugar- and deep fried to boot.
Yep, indulgence on a napkin right there.
Nosh on a couple donuts with your coffee and you've reached your monthly fat quota in a damn day.
The food chain is hoping Wall Street still has a sweet appetite for its glazed donuts as it prepares to return to public markets.
Genuinely contemplating the Krispy Kreme IPO prospectus because we like to put our money where our mouth is 🍩
Key Highlights:
💡Sold 1.3bn donuts in 2020, 64% were original glazed
💡+$7bn impressions from vaccine giveaway
💡+$1bn net revenue in 2020
💡Owns Insomnia Cookies- 54% of sales are online
💡67% of stores are outside the US and Canada
Also, the 1.3bn donuts sold were at a 75% gross margin?!
Damn.. talk about a lotta dough
Our Thoughts💡: You'd think a deadly pandemic and health trends would hurt donuts but turns out sugary desserts aren’t cyclical? Lmao
It goes beyond income/culture/trends.. or your waistline.
PS. After Krispy Kreme's IPO, can we officially launch obesity-as-a-company into the investing space?
Clearly, there's a strong demand out there 🥧🍫🍭🍮🍰🍦
Art 🎨 : Calling all beacons of the Art World!
One of the most prestigious art fairs- Art Basel to move forward with its September edition in Switzerland this year, ARTnews reports.
A strong desire for in-person events combined with increasing vaccinations have led Art Basel to host its first non-virtual fair in Europe after 2019.
While, socializing has always played a starring role in the glamorous weeklong parties surrounding the high-brow fair, there will be restrictions in place this year.
According to Artnet News:
💡The fair will run from September 20-26
💡Visitors are required proof of vaccination or a recent negative PCR test
💡Capacity to be reduced by 20% of usual attendance
💡A third fewer tickets to be sold for its public days
💡VIP-only days for the main fair will run from September 21-23 only
Founded in 1970, the landmark Swiss event expanded to Miami and Hong Kong over the years.
In its recently held Hong Kong fair last month, Art Basel stated it was a success “despite extreme travel restrictions.”
The fair drew 30,000 visitors over its five days and featured 104 exhibitors.
Tax 🗺 : G7 nations agree to historic tax deal.
Finance ministers from the World's 7 Most Advanced Economies have agreed on a Global Minimum Tax Rate of atleast 15% for multinationals.
Still lower than Raegan
The UK is the only member not backing the deal when it could raise £14.7bn annually for Britain.
Boris Johnson, please explain yourself. The Brits' demand answers.
The regime put forward by the Biden administration would impact Big Tech giants such as Amazon, Apple, Google and Facebook, who are notorious for using legal loopholes to avoid paying tax.
The overhaul would apply to overseas profits made by large firms, reducing incentives for large conglomerates to find tax havens abroad.
Moreover, it would give governments the necessary funds for stimulus and relief packages needed to recover from the Coronavirus.
Space☄️ : Dirt from Mars could be the most expensive substance in the world, Science Insider reports.
Space missions sponsored by NASA will bring back less than 1 kilogram of Martian soil in this decade. The total cost of the missions will surpass $9bn.
To put that in perspective, to bring back 2 pounds of soil, NASA would spend about 200,000 times the cost of 2 pounds of gold!
Damn.. that's way too much money. Especially, if the dirt is a dud.
But why is this soil so valuable?
According to Business Insider, a drone is currently searching for traces of life near a crater on Mars that disappeared billions of years ago.
Samples from this site given its proximity to water will allow us to determine living conditions on the Red Planet.
