Quick Bites:
Entertainment 📺 : Netflix announces "an unprecedented and in-depth documentary series" on the royal couple "Harry & Meghan."
Oh honey, an American just spilled British tea.. again 🍵
PS. Harry and Meghan announcing their Netflix show the same day that William and Kate land on American soil is the height of rich folk pettiness and we f**king love to see it
Netflix has said the 6-episode series dropping on December 8th would explore "the challenges that led to them feeling forced to step back from their full-time roles in the institution."
"Why did you want to make this documentary?” they’re asked in the trailer
Meghan responds💡: “When the stakes are this high doesn’t it make more sense to hear our story from us?”
Sure it makes sense when the stakes are $100 MILLION high 🤔
ALSO.. Meghan weeping into a $3000 Hermes blanket in the trailer is DEF not helping her image lmao
Despite the backlash, the series is highly anticipated; Google's "Year in Search" of 2021 showed that Oprah's CBS Special with the royal couple was the most searched interview in Google Trends history GLOBALLY.
Our Thoughts💡: Set the damn alarm. We cancelled all our meetings. WE ARE READY TO WATCH THIS
Hope y'all tune in! If only to throw your remote at the television lmao
Work culture 💻 : "What? A four-day work week?!"
More than a hundred UK companies, employing +2,500 workers, have now moved permanently to a 4-day working model, with no loss of pay for employees, The Guardian reports.
Personally, we're thrilled. Tequila Thursdays> Fajita Fridays ANYDAY👇🏻
The 4-Day Week Campaign is also coordinating the world’s biggest trial of a shorter week.
Joe Ryle, director of the campaign, said “We want to see this become the normal way of working [..] by the end of the decade."
However, while the world is debating a 4-day work week, those born from 1997 onwards say they don't want to work in an office full time- or AT ALL, WSJ reports.
Those who graduated right before or during the pandemic have never set foot in an office. They don't know the value of in-person interaction- nor do they wish to.
Our Thoughts💡: Personally, we believe the remote work obsession is a ploy by the Gen Z workforce to live out of their couch FOREVER, crash the economy and elect Bernie Sanders.. just sayin'
Retail 🛍 : Brexit strikes again! The UK has permanently decided to scrap tax-free shopping after briefly bringing it back in October.
Luxury brands are being snubbed by international tourists who can benefit from tax-free shopping elsewhere in Europe, Financial Times reports.
Paris, here we come ✈️
British designers including Burberry and Mulberry have highlighted the impact of the decision, saying they have lost "40-50% of potential business due to the end of the tax-free", FT.
Brands have also highlighted how their brick-and-mortar stores could become "unviable" as they struggle with sky-high overheads in upscale locations like Bond Street in London.
Our Thoughts💡: The allure of tax-free shopping for couture, fragrances, top-shelf liquor & of course, designer shoes.. VAT is definitely the highlight of every international excursion.
Tbh, that +10% back on shopping sprees can be GINORMOUS.. especially if you're a shopaholic.. ahem🙄..
Looks like Bond Street is going to be a whole lot emptier this Christmas. Blame the VAT.
E-commerce 🎀 : Calling all entrepreneurs! Premium packaging can pay off big-time.
Many e-commerce companies have raised the bar regarding product packaging, with some employers training staff to write personalized notes and tie ribbons.
Luxury brands, in particular, invest in expensive packaging as they aim to reproduce the high-end store experience for products shipped to their customers' homes, WSJ reports.
It essentially comes down to the one physical touchpoint that online brands have with their customers.
Instagram, especially, has influenced brands as it has spawned a packaging phenomenon called 'unboxing'.
An 'unboxing' video is when an influencer unpacks new consumer products for the first time with the video highlighting the brand's packaging, branding and other relevant details.
These products range from skincare and make-up to wedding stationary and wardrobe attire.
Our Thoughts💡: While we def believe premium packaging can be a promotional tool for brands, we also believe it's causing a massive problem of online returns due to the Instagram 'unboxing' reels.
Returns have become a rising cost for companies; costing British retailers almost £7bn last year, according to KPMG.
As monstrously large orders are unboxed, it raises the question of how much $$ was spent JUST FOR THE DAMN REEL?!
