This Week in Review☕️:WeightWatchers embraces weight loss drugs | The Greatest Wealth Transfer | Cinnamon Spiced Vanilla everywhere | Authentic named Word of the Year | The Top Desserts of the festive
Quick Bites:
Health 💊: WeightWatchers, the $550 million legacy diet brand, is betting the days of crash dieting are over, as they embrace Ozempic and Wegovy.
We joined WeightWatchers. So far, we've lost $100.
PS. When everyone is working on their 2024 bodies, but you know a quicker way 👇🏻😈
In the US, the number of people taking drugs to lose weight has increased 40 fold over the past five years.
WeightWatchers has been aware of the changing consumer landscape and knew it had to get on board to boost profits.
The CEO says the company's new approach, which included acquiring virtual prescription service 'Sequence' in March, has helped WeightWatchers stock rebound 78% so far this year, CNN.
Yes, the century-old company will still sell meal plans and have in-person workshops, but it will now also include lucrative prescriptions like Ozempic and Wegovy.
Welcome to the age of complete retardedness where all your friends and family swear they need untested meds to get healthy and resemble Dobby the House Elf 😬👇🏻
Our Thoughts💡: Long story short: We're basically creating a new multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical company that people are going to have to stay on to stay skinny.
We hate to break it to you guys: If you don't change your relationship with food, it doesn't matter whether you pop meds, track calories, hit the gym, cut your stomach or even stitch your lips. Eventually y'all gonna become fat af again.
PS. For all the talk of Ozempic, it's actually SUPER easy to shed pounds when you don't hang out with other women on a daily basis 🙄
Wealth 💰: Billionaires from inheritance to outnumber the self-made for the first time in over a decade, Bloomberg reports.
Ways to make money:
1. Inherit
2. Marry rich
3. Repeat 1 and 2
According to a report from UBS, 53 heirs inherited a total of $150.8 billion in the year ended in April, compared with $140.7 billion amassed by 84 billionaires from entrepreneurship over that time.
This is also partly due to the slow IPO market.
Jealousy is ugly guys. You can't dictate what Daddy does with his wealth. It is NOT cool for rich people to cut their kids out of their inheritance. Infact it is genuinely one of the dumbest flexes alive.. All because of these Silicon Valley cucks making a once-in-a-lifetime app.
We will personally be leaving a sizeable fortune for our kids, and none of you will EVER be able to get a dime because we have the same trust attorneys you buffoons have!🖕🏻🖕🏻
Key Highlights, according to UBS:
💡The number of billionaires in the world rose by 7%
💡More than 1,000 billionaires are expected to pass $5.2 trillion to their children over the next 20 or 30 years
💡Europe led the growth in billionaire wealth for the first time as luxury goods companies surged
💡The bank found that billionaire heirs were less interested in philanthropy than first-generation billionaires.
“The great wealth transfer, which we’ve all been talking about for the last 10 years, is underway."
“The average age of the world’s billionaires is almost 69 right now. So this whole transition or wealth handover will start to accelerate.”
-John Mathews, head of UBS’ Private Wealth Management Division
Culture 📚: 'Authentic' named word of the year. GENUINELY
Merriam-Webster has chosen "Authentic" as its word of the year, noting that authenticity is now a “gold standard for building trust”.
In an age of AI, misinformation and deep fakes, authenticity takes the crown.
Other highly searched terms in 2023 included “deepfake,” “dystopian,” “indict,” “coronation” and “X” following Twitter’s rebrand in July.
"Gaslighting" was Merriam-Webster’s word of the year in 2022.
Thank god it is finally proven that the word EXISTS. Our spouse making us think we're an effing psychopath all year 🤔
"Authentic" was the most-looked-up word in the dictionary's 500,000 entries, the company said in a press release as reported by NPR.
In addition, millions signed up to "BeReal" (a GenZ app that where you take photos without any filters or editing) and beauty filters led to a big backlash on social media for promoting unrealistic standards.
Our Thoughts💡: Meanwhile, us in hell explaining 'gaslighting' and 'lovebombing' to an ancient farmer who was executed for stealing a loaf of bread in 1350 👇🏻😫
Consumer Goods 🕯️: Bath & body Works celebrates the holidays with a new campaign focused on community- umm and a ginormous candle in New York City.
The campaign introduces a new creative platform, “Come Back to Your Senses” which invites people to wake up their senses through scent, even if their lives seemed chaotic to them.
The brand dropped its biggest candle yet at Herald Square in NYC: Standing 10 feet tall, it’s a recreation of their iconic 'Tis the Season' candle, allowing shoppers to connect through fragrance in one of the busiest streets in the world, AdWeek reports.
The display is also a move for the brand to connect with GenZ who may not be accustomed to retail stores brick-and-mortar shopping.
