Quick Bites:
Health🍯: Stevia, Monkfruit, Honey, Agave.. and we finally have a winner- Erythritol. Or atleast we thought we did.
"Erythritol", the sugar-substitute found in Splenda, diet drinks and low-calorie snacks, has been linked to heart attack and stroke risks, according to latest research.
And real sugar has been linked to... ? 🤔
Tbh, it's time we question these "safe" sugar-free products we're often advised to consume by nutritionists and health magazines.
We're told to use fat-shredding apps, supplements, magic pills, zero-calorie snacks.. Long story short- yes, y'all got fat and yes, we're here to make BIG bucks off your lazy a**
The research on Erythritol shows that health MATTERS, even for skinny-obsessed, Peloton-hoarding, overprivileged teens credited for making size 0 hot on the gram'
According to the study published in Nature Medicine this week, Erythritol is made from fermented corn and is mostly absorbed into the bloodstream upon consumption.
Data showed that people with high blood levels of the sweetener had increased risk of heart attacks, blood clotting and strokes.
We mean, what doesn't give you a stroke these days?! Caffeine is bad for you, meat is bad, bread is bad, sugar is bad.. but not to worry guys because worrying is bad for you too 😩
Our Thoughts💡: Our motto is simple: Do everything in moderation including moderation.
Having said that, we just hope there's a vial of insulin in the next Coke Zero you guzzle down 🙏
Coffee☕️: Starbucks wants you to give Olive Oil Coffee a shot. Really!
The coffee chain is launching a new line of beverages made with extra virgin olive oil. The drinks will first launch in Italy.
Ah yes, the Italian man's bulletproof coffee
Interim CEO Howard Schultz said the new line called 'Oleato' will be a "market-maker" as he himself talks about taking a spoonful of olive oil every morning as part of his daily ritual.
Hmm.. this new 'Oleato' line is increasingly sounding like something Kourtney Kardashian would sell us via Poosh on the condition that it'll open our spiritual chakras🙄
PS. ALL we really wanted was plant-based milk that didn't cost an extra 75 cents 🙏
Like it or not, Starbucks is urban living. The Seattle-based giant has ingrained itself in our daily lives one frothy macchiato at a time.
However, there’s plenty of turf their lattes have yet to claim. Vast swaths of communities are still untouched by the iconic Starbucks green-siren logo.. likeItaly.
Starbucks, like many other big US chains, has struggled to gain a foothold in Italy, where independent and family-run cafes dominate the coffee scene.
It's no secret that Italians don't like foreign brands- mainly due to their strong traditions and customs in food. They're not interested in the American way of free WiFi .. ahem 🙄.. and the 1000-calorie Peppermint Mochas
This is why Starbucks is combining the Italians' love for olive oil and coffee- in an attempt to capture their tough palate and increase revenue.
Our Thoughts💡: Starbucks has also said "Oleato" is coming to the UK next. With the price of olive oil in Tesco combined with the cost-of-living crisis, we'd be surprised if even Rishi Sunak could afford one of these 😩
But then again, coffee first because therapy's just too damn expensive y'all
Big Tech 🌡: Apple is closing in on a non-invasive way to monitor blood glucose without needing to prick the skin.
If successful, the technology would be put on a smartwatch and would be a game changer to diabetics, Bloomberg reports.
There are over 400 million diabetics in the world and 1.5 million deaths are directly attributed to diabetes each year, according to the WHO.
The average starting cost for a CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitoring) system is approx $1000 and even with insurance, you can end up spending thousands of dollars every year.
An Apple Watch starting at $200 would be an absolute STEAL in comparison!
Our Thoughts💡: Apple made headlines for becoming the first company to hit a $3 trillion valuation last year.
Meanwhile.. iPoor 😩
💡Apple valuation in 1977: $3 million
💡Apple valuation in 2022: $3 trillion
💡Apple valuation in 2033: $30 trillion
Personally, we're just thrilled it won't become a double-digit trillion dollar company by selling billions of the same phone each year. Nope, now it'll be billions of the same watch
Same same but different 🤔🤔
Artificial Intelligence🌍: Attention Couch Potatoes! Get ready to rejoice as some mind-reading genius brings you last night's leftovers & booze so you never, ever have to get off that couch.
"Hey bud, fetch me that Pepperoni Pizza and a Beer"
Robots predicted to do almost 40% of domestic chores by 2023.
According to researchers from Oxford and Japan's Ochanomizu University, Grocery shopping is likely to see the most automation; adding that technology could cut the time we spend on this task by 60%.
However, caring for the very young or old is likely to remain a human challenge for the foreseeable future, with "only 28% of care work predicted to be automated."
Background💡: AI systems are getting more competent with every passing day.
You might recall "Optimus": Elon Musk's latest humanoid robot that he displayed on Tesla’s 2022 AI Day.
The robot not only walked, waved and danced in front of its audience, but Musk promised that this robot will replace "hard, dangerous and repetitive" jobs.
Hmm.. branding the bot "Optimus" which is basically a strong & reassuring term for a resident as a human experiment+big tech surveillance.. Damn, Elon does it well 🙌🏻
Our Thoughts💡: As labor wages rise, it had already been increasingly tricky for companies to justify humans with their never-ending demands & whatnot.
AI-powered Robots work 24/7. They don't need a toilet break, don't throw tantrums, can't catch the flu, don't need maternity leave & def don't need vacation time to go sunbathing in Capri
They really are coming for ALL of us 🤯
