️Quick Bites :
Stock Market📈 : The S&P 500 climbed the most in three weeks by the end of last week.
What if WallStreetBets been short squeezing the market the entire time?
Fresh data shows Health companies and Energy producers among the best performers, Bloomberg reports.
Change in S&P 500 under :
💡Biden : +16%
💡Trump: +9.6%
The S&P has surged a whopping +75% from the pandemic bust last spring, making it the best bull market ever.
Did you also panic & sell or are you emotionally stable?
Current Value of a $1000 invested a year ago in:
💡Bitcoin- $8,729
💡Tesla- $7,714
💡Gold- $1,111
💡S&P 500- $1,761
Our Thoughts💡: Ugh, the constant reminder about how we should've pulled the trigger on Tesla but thought it was overvalued at a 100 bucks
Food 🥖 :France has chosen the 'Baguette' for UNESCO Heritage status, seeking recognition for the ultimate French food.
Well, that's a very French thing to do for sure
When you think of 'heritage', you think of the Taj Mahal, Notre Dame or Stonehenge, you probably wouldn't think of a long, narrow loaf of bread?
But according to data, About 10 billion baguettes are eaten in France every year; around 320 every second.
The US on the other hand has not submitted anything. Or are we avoiding the embarrassment of submitting French Fries for consideration?
Our Thoughts💡: Ready to evaluate whether the famous French Baguette is deserving of the UNESCO heritage status by tasting one right away.
PS. We like ours with cherry tomatoes and a bucketload of mozzarella. A dollop of Extra Virgin Olive Oil to go with it 👇🏻
Fashion 👠 :Retail brands like H&M, Nike and Uniqlo face fire in China after claims that they would halt all imports of cotton from China's Xinjiang region.
The fallout comes as Western brands expressed concerns of the use of forced labor in the region, particularly of the country's Uyghur Muslim minority.
20% of the world's cotton comes from Xinjiang and yet, we bet, H&M wouldn't know where Xinjiang falls on a map.
China's response💡: "For enterprises that touch the bottom line of our country, the response is very clear: Don't buy! "
The hashtag #ISupportXJCotton-created by the state-owned People's Daily- garnered over 3million likes as of Friday on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, NBCNews reports.
Seeing the Chinese trying to defend China is funny. Of course, they can't complain against the Human Rights issue in their country... We mean, they literally cannot 🤐
💡The list of companies that boycotted Chinese cotton:
Nike, Adidas, Canvas, Burberry, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Northface, Vans
We wonder if these brands can weather the storm and remain in China. Products from H&M have been removed from major e-commerce platforms like Alibaba and Didi Chuxing already. Nike is also facing serious blowback.
China's intolerant regime extends to its' shoes lmao 🤷🏻♀️
WSJ💡: “The backlash against H&M nevertheless highlights how multinational companies are being squeezed in an intensifying, high-stakes clash between Beijing and Western governments over human rights.”
Art 🎨 : Rare Vincent van Gogh piece sells for $15.4mn in Sotheby's sale in Paris last week, ARTNews.
The landscape "Street scene in Montmartre" was painted in the spring of 1887, merely three years before the Dutch painter committed suicide. The rare artwork has been rediscovered almost after a 100 years in a private French collection.
"The appearance on the market of a work of this caliber and from such an iconic series is undoubtedly a major event."
While Van Gogh was unsuccessful during his lifetime, he became famous after his suicide. He dealt with years of mental depression and poverty which was likely worsened by bipolarity, insomnia and alcoholism.
A classic example of the underdog who is acknowledged after his death.
Travel ✈️ : Airlines test out Digital Health Passes to revive air travel. It is expected to be ready 'within weeks.'
"The pass is an app that verifies a passenger has had the Covid-19 tests or vaccines required to enter a country."
This is supposed to "revive" travel? Like, this added requirement is meant to be an incentive?
To our knowledge, there has never been a vaccine card required for Chicken Pox, Common Cold, Influenza, Pneumonia or Diarrhea. (And yes, Diarrhea can be infectious AND highly contagious)
Plus, many people are against airlines using digital health passes from a Data Protection & Privacy standpoint.
