Ditch the Avocado Toast🥑
This Week in Review☕️: Harvard makes history with new Presidency | Todays graduates earn less than their parents | Airbnb is renting out iconic Shrek swamp | Birkenstocks to make New York IPO | Fashion
Quick Bites:
Education 📚: In a historic first, Harvard University inaugurates school's first black President, Claudine Gay.
Black. Woman. Last name Gay. We love it. A perfect storm of wokism.. Now if only she declares she's trans and we got a trifecta right here folks 👏🏻
PS. MAGA supporters be exploding in 3, 2, 1...
PS. Our energy for the rest of the year is to try and live everyday like Elle Woods after Warner told her she wasn't smart enough to go to Harvard👇🏻
“The courage of this University- our resolve, against all odds- to question the world as it is and imagine and make a better one: It is what Harvard was made to do,” Gay said.
Her Presidency was also recognized by Massachusetts Governor and Harvard graduate Maura Healey who noted the significance of her inauguration.
Our Thoughts💡: Harvard's 1st black President 368 years after its founding?
Bout time innit
Claudine Gay- a daughter of Haitian immigrants, a leading scholar of political science, a Ph.D. in government. Another glass ceiling broken! 🙌🏻
Harvard freshmen: "On a scale of 1 to Harvard, how preppy do we look?"
Harvard sophomores: "Yale, cuz ur shirt is wrinkled"
Finance📈: Believe it or not, it's almost been a year since the FTX fiasco.
In 2017, Sam Bankman-Fried started a cryptocurrency hedgefund, setting off a sequence of events that has today led to his day in court.
Umm no sh*t. No way in hell does the old grandma down the street get arrested over $26 but SBF walks free. America, we've seen this movie before🖕🏻
Background💡: For those sleeping under a rock, "FTX", the World's 2nd largest crypto-exchange, ran by ex-Wall Street trader Sam Bankman-Fried saw his entire effing company implode last year as allegations of fraud and money laundering were revealed.
The blow up which affected everyone from FTX customers and investors to… the Miami Heat, (whose arena is named after the company btw), shook the world.
Not ONE normal day in crypto 🙏🏻
The trial begins today and Bankman-Fried's ex-girlfriend Caroline Ellison is expected to be the star witness, The Wall Street Journal reports.
UGH, why is it always the ex who screws you over!!🤬
The other cooperating witnesses include co-founder 'Gary Wang' and Head of Engineering 'Nishad Singh'.
Our Thoughts💡: Just off the top of our heads this month..
FTX trial, Congress avoiding a shutdown, Elon Musk charging everyone on Twitter, AI disinformation threatening elections, inflation still being a b*tch, someone winning a $267 million lottery jackpot…and most importantly, Taylor Swift expanding her Eras Tour to the big screen
Buckle up guys 🙏🏻
Work 💰: Today's graduates make almost $10,000 less than their parents, after adjusting for inflation, CNBC reports.
Yep.. like edibles, price hikes take a while to kick in. But when they do, they f**king kick in folks 🤯
In addition to rising costs, millennials and Gen Z face other financial problems their parents did not as young adults:
Not only are their salaries lower in comparison but they are also carrying larger student debt.
Keep em broke Keep em borrowing.. That's the plan
In fact, today’s undergrads expect to make around $85,000 upon graduating.
Yet, the average starting salary for recent graduates is just shy of $56,000- an overestimation of nearly $30,000.
So we're earning less but our student loans should hang around our neck like a noose for years because of the high interest. Bidenomics.. the gift that keeps giving😭
However, financial planners say: Regardless of how much money you make, financial health come down to good behavior and spending habits.
"Know what comes in and what goes out."
Our Thoughts💡: For example: a super simple thing you can do to solve your money problems is to put your $15 avocado toast + $10 cappuccino toward a deposit.
(PS. The venn diagram between people who say "restaurant avocado toast is too expensive" and "I don't feel like making avo toast at home" is an effing circle🙈)
Tbh, we've seen GenZ order smashed avocado with crumbled feta & fried eggs on seeded multigrain bread at $30 a pop. Like, how y'all affording to eat like this? 🤔
$30 everyday could go towards a deposit on a house or a car.
Long story short: DITCH 🥑 THE 🥑 AVO 🥑 PEOPLE 🥑
Living🏠: Airbnb is increasingly renting out the homes of famous movie characters.
3 months after offering a stay at Barbie’s Malibu DreamHouse, Airbnb’s latest project is a long weekend at Shrek’s Swamp, located in the Scottish Highlands, CNBC reports.
Umm you can have so much Shrex in there😜
According to Airbnb:
"Shrek’s mud-laden, moss-covered, murky-watered swamp is situated among the rolling hills of Scotland where guests can stay up late, swap stories, and eat like an ogre- because in the morning, Donkey’s making waffles!"
During their stay, guests can:
💡Relax in the ambiance of “earwax candlelight”
💡Kick their feet up with a parfait (bc everybody loves a parfait!)
💡Swap stories around the fire until late in the night (Uggs szn is here baby)
💡Enjoy a stack of freshly made waffles in the morning (Choc chip obv 🧇)
💡And of course, enjoy the ultimate privacy of Shrek’s trusted outhouse (y'all know what thats for🥰)
Our Thoughts💡: We'll only stay there if Smash Mouth's AllStar plays on repeat like one of those speakers in peoples homes in North Korea.
💡Uber owns no cars
💡Airbnb owns no homes
💡Millennials own nothing
This is the new economy
Fashion🩴: Birkenstocks targets $9.2 billion valuation in New York IPO.
While Birkenstocks would have never cost you much financially, they could have cost you your social status- until now.
The German footwear company has regained popularity, not only because of its comfort, but also because of it being featured recently in the "Barbie" movie.
Margot Robbie channelling our daily energy.. just a girl and her Birkenstocks against the world🌟
Key Highlights, according to Reuters:
💡Birkenstocks plans to sell atleast 32 million shares and raise about $1.6 billion at the top end
💡The shares will be listed under the name 'BIRK'
💡Pricing at $44 - $49 a piece
💡Birkenstock, which traces its roots back to 1774, is a 6th-generation family-owned business.
💡It has partnered with many high-end brands including Christian Dior and Manolo Blahnik
Our Thoughts💡: Love it or hate it, there's definitely a market for "comfy". The more clunky, clompy and clacky the shoe, the more we want em'.
We no longer need to hide our Birkenstocks for alone time or lounging in our backyard! Ugly and chunky is BACK with a bang 🙌🏻
PS. According to our company policy, Birkenstocks are totally acceptable as part of our Work-from-Home attire💯
