Eggs and Gen Z 🍳
This Week in Review ☕️ : Egg substitute enters Europe | Boomers are the fittest generation | The Pandemic Weight Gain | Apple is under scrutiny again | Rihanna talks body and boy | Plant-based food
Quick Bites:
Food 🍳 : Popular vegan egg substitute 'JUST Egg' is making its way to Europe after its key ingredient was finally approved in the continent.
“This first-ever EU approval for a novel legume protein marks a key step forward for the plant-based food sector."
“Forward-thinking consumers in Europe have been asking for JUST Egg since the day it launched in the US,”
-Josh Tetrick, CEO of Eat Just, said in a statement.
“Whether because of climate change, health, or a connection to animals, the demand has been significant."
Key Highlights, according to Vegan news:
💡More than 1.3 trillion eggs are consumed annually worldwide with 110 billion eggs being eaten in Europe alone
💡Egg-laying hens are among the most abused animals on earth
💡In Europe, plant-based food sales reached €3.6bn in 2020, a growth approx 50% higher than in 2018
💡JUST Egg gets its key egg-like characteristics from mung bean protein
💡JUST Egg first became available in retail in 2019 and has quickly grown its distribution to Canada, South Africa, and even China
💡JUST Egg is also available in liquid, folded, and sous vide formats to compete with chicken eggs on every level.
💡The company is also reducing its price with the ultimate goal of becoming the cheapest egg- vegan or not- in the world
Fitness 💪 : Boomers are fitter than Gen Z!
A new report by British shoe-brand ASICS showed that pursuing older customers could be more lucrative for fitness companies.
According to ASICS' Global State of Mind Index, there is a “generational exercise gap,” and baby boomers are on the right side of it.
Key Highlights:
💡People between the ages of 57 and 70 worked out the most- an average of 215 minutes per week- likely as a result of having the most time to exercise.
💡Gen Z was the least active generation according to the 17-country study, with 18-to-24 year olds exercising just 111 minutes per week.
💡Infact, since the onset of Covid-19, over 40% of US young adults have gained weight- 29 lbs on average. Lack of exercise has been a key factor.
💡Moreover, according to MarketData, the overall US Diet Industry reached a new peak of $78bn in 2019, but lost 21% of it's value in 2020.
With zero parties/ weddings/ summer vacays, the closest Gen Z got to Bikini season was scrolling through Conde Nast on Instagram 🤷🏻♀️
We mean, it definitely doesn't help that Krispy Kreme, Budweiser and Nathan's Hot Dogs have been offering free doughnuts, beer and weiners to everyone who got the jam.
Which, tbh, is fantastic news for anyone who wants to avoid the virus but still has an obesity wish.🙈
Our Thoughts💡: Just tried to put on our 2019 jeans. Turns out zero exercise and eating garbage for 2 years makes you gain weight? Wtf all we wanted to do was raid the cookie jar without judgement (& the extra pounds) 🙏
Fashion 🧦 : Rihanna is Vogue's May cover star!

“People don’t get out of the friend zone very easily with me,” she said in the cover story “And I certainly took a while to get over how much I know him and how much he knows me, because we also know how much trouble we can land each other in.”
"I cooked our food on this little janky grill I bought from Walmart," Rihanna said. "I just feel like I can do any part of life by his side.”
“I’m hoping that we were able to redefine what’s considered ‘decent’ for pregnant women. My body is doing incredible things right now, and I’m not going to be ashamed of that."
"This time should feel celebratory. Because why should you be hiding your pregnancy?”
Damn right RiRi!🙌🏻
Big Tech 🍎 : Apple CEO Tim Cook speaks out against antitrust regulators.
New antitrust legislation includes a proposal that would require Apple to allow iPhone users to download apps from outside the company's App Store, CNBC reports.
According to Cook, side-loading would hurt user privacy and security.
“That means data-hungry companies would be able to avoid our privacy rules, and once again track our users against their will.”
“Taking away a more secure option will leave users with less choice, not more,”
Our Thoughts💡: While we understand the "Big is Bad" & "Tech must be regulated" mentality, we also believe we're long past the point of no return in our connected lives.
Can you imagine using the iPhone any other way than what we're used to over the pandemic? Or having social distanced without social media this lockdown?
So, while we're stuck with these Tech Giants on our Smartphones & MacBook Pros ( or Airs- both are good as long as you got the Magic Keyboard ⌨️ ), they're stuck with angry lawmakers defending their dominance over all aspects of our lives.
