Quick Bites:
Food🍟: New study says French Fries can cause depression.
Umm.. Brussel sprouts can do the same🙄
Research showed that frequent consumption of fried food was linked with a 12% higher risk of anxiety and 7% higher risk of depression than people who didn't eat fried foods.
Y'all know what's linked to depression? Making it through these never-ending "unprecedented events", exploding economy, debt, inflation.. NOT our damn fries leave us alone👋🏻
Key Highlights, according to CNN:
💡The data shows that the link is more significant among young consumers
💡Fried potatoes, in particular, was linked to a 2% increase in risk of depression compared to fried white meat, such as chicken
💡The findings show the importance of "reducing fried food for mental health and providing evidence to understand acrylamide-triggered anxiety and depression"
Our Thoughts💡: We've got 78943445 valid reasons to be depressed. This ain't gonna stop us.
So, call us an effing therapist, get us some happy pills and a bucketload of ketchup cuz we about to get REAL depressed at McDonalds tonight
Space🪐: Space X to spend $2 billion on Starship Rocket this year, and might not need to raise additional outside funding, WSJ reports.
Background💡: On April 20, SpaceX's Starship launch ended in a mid-air explosion leaving a hole in the launch pad.
CEO Elon Musk noted they knew the "pad would erode during that launch, but didn’t think concrete would be smashed."
While it was able to launch, it experienced an error and exploded during the separation phase.
Hmm.. SpaceX Starship seems to have had an unfortunate case of premature ejaculation.. We believe it runs in the Musk family
PS. All that debris and dirt falling everywhere but just last night we threw a gum wrapper on the floor and got a ticket for littering tf 🖕🏻
“My expectation for the next flight would be to reach orbit,” Musk said.
Our Thoughts💡: Starship. The most powerful rocket ever built by humans. Nearly 400 feet tall and generating 2x the thrust of Saturn V. Can you even imaging getting something so massive off the ground?! That was a pretty exhilarating moment. Many more to come🙌🏻
On another note, while we're on the topic of Musk and all his crazy endeavors, Twitter users are reacting furiously to all of Musk's changes on the platform.
From Twitter Blue subscription (a feature that was initially coveted but free) to altering the algorithm, users are angry af😡
Tbh, Elon musk thought he would go down in history as the dude who invented Tesla and SpaceX. Instead, he's now gonna be best known as the dude who blew up $44 BILLION to ruin Twitter in 2 f*cking weeks.
Let that sink in. with a B.
Culture👩🦱: Barbie might have started off as a tall busty blonde with light-skin and blue eyes, but she's had many transformations over the years from being darker to having a prosthetic leg.
Now for the first time, Mattel has introduced its first-ever doll with Down syndrome.
The launch shows the company's commitment "to counter social stigma through play" and to "never underestimate the power of representation".
Mattel said it consulted with medical experts and professionals to be "purposeful with every design choice" to spread awareness about Down Syndrome.
Key characteristics of the doll, according to The Guardian:
💡A shorter frame and a longer torso
💡Leg braces that some people with Down syndrome wear to help them walk
💡A pink pendant necklace with 3 chevrons representing the three copies of the 21st chromosome (which is the genetic material that causes the disorder)
💡A puff-sleeved dress pattern featuring butterflies and yellow and blue colors, which are symbols associated with Down’s syndrome awareness.
Our Thoughts💡: We see a lotta conservatives calling Barbie-maker Mattel "woke" but we don't just see it that way.
This is about young girls with Down syndrome being able to play with a doll they can actually relate to.
Feeling included can do A LOT for people that are considered "different".
Can we PLEASE take the cultural wins when we get em' guys?!🙏🏻
ALSO, Can we get mugshot Barbie back @Mattel ?!
Climate Change 🌊 : The 'Twilight Zone' of the ocean could disappear due to the climate crisis.
One of Earth’s largest habitats could see its rich diversity of life reduced by the end of the century due to the ongoing crisis.
Key Highlights, according to CNN:
💡The “twilight zone,” is located between 656 feet and 3,280 feet below the surface.
💡This zone is a crucial habitat for marine life like sharks, or lanternfish that hide during the day and swim to the surface waters to feed at night.
💡New research shows life in the twilight zone could reduce between 20% and 40% by the end of the century.
In addition, if greenhouse gas emissions continue, researchers estimate that the ocean region’s life could be severely depleted within 150 years- and recovery may not be possible for thousands of years.
“What we really need is to protect the twilight zone to stop, or at least slow down, the high rate of change that we are subjecting our planet’s climate to.”
