Quick Bites:
Work 💻 : The pandemic saw an exploding market for sweatpants.
About as essential as the Banana Bread starter kit and Hand-sanitizer, sweats became the official #WFH uniform.
Even Anna Wintour was seen donning them! If the ultimate decider on what's hot in fashion has been wearing sweats the past 2 years, so were we! Period.
However, as in-person events and business travel finally resume in 2022, the latest work trend this year has come to be 'Bleisure':
According to Fortune, a combination of business and leisure dubbed 'bleisure' is the new work uniform.
Imagine being sent to attend an art gallery opening in Miami, only to enjoy a fully-paid for weekend stay at the Nobu Hotel before attending another art event the following week.
Many companies are now allowing employees to extend their business trips and take a few days off to get in some downtime, Fortune reports.
"The knock-on impact of ‘revenge travel’ is that employees are now open to extended stays, traveling further afield, and looking for a more diverse range of accommodation,"
-Vivi Himmel, CEO of corporate housing provider AltoVita
Our Thoughts💡: Given Brooks Brothers' and J.Crew's bankruptcy filings in 2020, it became increasingly clear that the corporate worlds' dress code had already shifted from preppy pinstripes to leisure-ly clothing.
The pandemic didn't start as much as accelerate this shift; the longstanding button-downs & suits trend was already struggling in the face of rising fast-fashion.
Although Brooks Brothers- the 202 year old retailer survived this shift, it couldn't survive the Coronavirus🙈
Gotta admit, we loved their slim-fit though 👔
Food: Leading food delivery comapany- Deliveroo is confident it will turn profitable eventually.
Deliveroo has promised “cautious” brand investment this year as it reported even greater losses for 2021 to long-suffering investors.
Tbh as soon as Starbucks got on Deliveroo, that was it for us💯
The British takeout company has outlined a “path to profitability”, including a new advertising revenue stream.
Deliveroo has also outlined a more conservative budget as marketing spend nearly doubled from £359mn in 2020 to £629mn this year.
According to CEO Will Shu, Deliveroo plans to achieve its goals by making plans technology the “foremost” investment.
“Key examples are network efficiency and machine learning models."
Deliveroo will also be investing into tech-focused roles in its team, with Shu highlighting data scientists, product people and designers.
Our Thoughts💡: Personally, we believe takeout is swindling. By the time this pandemic is fully over, we're gonna be qualified Culinary experts the way we been binging cooking shows on Hulu 👩🍳
NFTS 🖼 : Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) has bought CryptoPunks and Meebits, giving the company control over three of the most popular NFT collections on the market.
The creators of BAYC- Yuga Labs broke the internet overnight with the acquisition.
We bought a CryptoPunk NFT today. We now hold the Holy Trinity of digital tokens:
💡Bored Ape
💡Crypto Punk
💡Meebit
Talk about a bigger flex 🙌🏻
The BAYC and CryptoPunks collections are the hottest properties among NFT fans, boasting over $1bn and $2.2bn in trading volume respectively, Business Insider reports.
CryptoPunks sales have risen 1200% since Yuga Labs acquired the collection.
A look at some of the latest celebs and brands endorsing NFTs:
💡Shaquille O’Neal: Bought into the Mutant Ape Yacht Club (which tbh is pretty much like getting accepted into the LA Soho House.. exclusive AF)
💡Justin Bieber: Recently bought a BAYC NFT for 300% more than its estimated value
💡Kevin Hart: Recently purchased BAYC No. 9258 for around $200,000
💡Diesel: The denim brand is dropping its first NFTs
💡Hermes: Sold the iconic “Baby Birkin” NFT for $47,000 (approx 4 times of the bag's retail value)
💡Gucci: Collaborated with other household NFT brands, such as Balenciaga to bring the "Aria" collection in 2021
Our Thoughts💡: In other word, the über wealthy have now found a new way to stash, embezzle and transfer their money lmao
Welcome to 2022. The Future is Non-Fungible 🚀
Mental Health 🧠 : Young girls are struggling.
According to new research, there is a mental health epidemic among teenage girls- and this one's been around a lot longer than Covid-19.
According to The New Statesman Magazine:
💡Women suffer lower self-esteem and worry about their body image
💡In a study of 40,000 teenagers conducted by Manchester University, 22% of girls reported emotional difficulties compared with 7% of boys; social media and a lack of sleep were contributing factors
💡Girls were twice as likely as boys to suffer mental health problems by the time they were 18
💡While we should be careful not to discard boys' challenges, girls do face some specific issues such as being objectified by porn
💡Girls also make more comparisons with celebrities sharing their "perfect bodies"
This comes as Prince Harry urged companies to give young staff more time to focus on their mental health, as he opened up about his own struggles with burnout recently.
Ok.. but we still haven't figured out what The Duke of Sussex gets burnout from?🤔
