Quick Bites:
Health💊: Global alert issued over fake weight-loss drugs.
Fake, potentially "life-threatening" Ozempic is spreading across the world as demand skyrockets, warns the World Health Organization.
Umm no shit demand is crazy, one does not simply eat a box of Dunkin' Donuts, not exercise and STILL lose weight 🫢
PS. A little tip: Anyone taking this poison should always carry an extra pair of undies and a roll of toilet paper in their bag 💩💩💩
Ozempic is also known as the "skinny jab" despite its main purpose being a treatment for type 2 diabetes.
Massive demand, combined with the high cost- nearly $1,000 per month, are significant factors for the fakes.
In the past, counterfeit drugs have been found to contain dust and rat poison.
These fake drug manufacturers don't need to go through quality control, or any of the regulatory requirements that bind legal manufacturers.
WHO claims these drugs were "supplied in the regulated supply chain" which "raises questions about how bad drugs were getting into protected markets,"
-per Quartz.
Our Thoughts💡:
Meanwhile, us not on any weight-loss drugs (fake or real), tryna minimize the damage done by 5 days of binge-eating with a single meal tonight👇🏻😭
Business💳: AmEx splurges on dinner reservations.
The company just acquired "Tock"- a bookings platform that caters to upscale restaraunts where tables are difficult to come by, AP News reports.
Us negotiating with a high-school kid for a Friday night table at Carbone bc he's selling a 9pm spot and we need the spicy rigatoni 👇🏻🍝
Key Highlights, reported by AP News:
💡AmEx has acquired 'Tock' from Squarespace for $400 million cash
💡AmEx began making acquisitions in the dining space when it bought the famous restaraunt-reservation app 'Resy' five years ago
💡Other credit card companies have done the same; JPMorgan acquired 'The Infatuation' as a lifestyle brand in 2021
💡AmEx’s purchase of Resy 5 years ago has allowed it to dominate global dining.
Exclusive reservations: Primetime tables at sought-after restaraunts just held just for you. Priority Notifications: When tables open up, AmEx cardholders are the first to know.. Umm, we'll take it 🙌🏻
The no. of restaurants on the Resy platform has grown five-fold since AmEx purchased the company.
According to AP News, it's become a key part of how the company locks in high-end businesses to be either AmEx-exclusive, or give preferential treatment to AmEx cardmembers.
AmEx also announced last week it would buy "Rooam", a contactless payment platform that is used heavily in stadiums and other entertainment venues.
Our Thoughts💡: Sarah Jessica Parker said it right in Sex and the City👇🏻
"And as the world re-opened, I couldn't help but wonder:
Does it matter if I have reservations about his character, if he has reservations at Chez l'Ami Louis..?" 💭
Pop Culture🎤: Taylor Swift brought her NFL star boyfriend Travis Kelce on stage during her concert at London's Wembley Stadium.
Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce, Paul McCartney, and 89,000 fans- what a historic moment! Swifties went WILD 💃
The surprise appearance delighted fans, as the couple has been quite private since they started dating last September.
Thousands of fans who attended the concert took to social media to gush.
"If you would’ve told me a year ago that Travis Kelce would be on stage with Taylor Swift, I wouldn’t have believed you," one fan wrote on X.
The thing about Taylor Swift is that she perfectly conveys through her songs, the daily emotional rollercoaster of womens lives.
It's why she has such a massive fan base and we all can't stop listening. We're all wondering "Wait you felt that way? We were all feeling this way?" 💭💭
Do men have someone like that? GENUINELY CURIOUS 🤔
Taylor Swift brought her Eras Tour to London last week with some famous faces in the audience, including the Prince of Wales and two of his children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
The official @KensingtonRoyal Instagram account posted a photo of Swift taking a selfie with the royals.
Swift will perform 8 shows in London- more than any other city on her Eras Tour.
Our Thoughts💡: Honest to god.. everything we know about Taylor Swift, we learned against our will
Education📱: Global push to ban mobile phones in schools.
Parents are being warned of the negative mental health effects, not to mention their childrens' safety.
We read somewhere today that: Gen Z kids keep their mobiles on Do Not Disturb 24/7, so they never have to face the anxiety of answering the phone.
Umm we just wanna clarify that is NOT true. We are not Gen Z, our phone has been on DND for over 10 years at this point, we don't need to answer robocall spam 🖕🏻🖕🏻
Los Angeles is the latest major city to ban cell-phone use during school hours, Bloomberg reports.
Pressure is mounting on New York City schools to do the same. Nearly three quarters of high school teachers are calling phone use a “major problem," notes former NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who is in support of a ban.
Increased phone use is associated with “impaired academic performance,” he claims, citing research that finds “the ‘mere proximity’ of a mobile device is enough to "impede focus.”
Research shows that phones can lead to poor academic results, decrease in focus and attention span, distance from family and exposure to harmful data.
Physical issues include a lazy lifestyle; think less movement, obesity and lack of sufficient sleep.
Fashion 🥿 : Shein, the fast-fashion company, has filed for a London IPO, in what could be one of the world's biggest IPOs of 2024, Reuters reprts.
It is also expected to be the biggest IPO the UK has seen in about 10 years.
The company was valued at $63 billion as of last year.
Background, reported by Reuters:
Shein, which was founded in China, has gone to great lengths to establish itself as “global”.
It even moved its headquarters to Singapore in 2021. However, majority of its supply chain is still based in China, which is why it could not go public in the US, despite that being their initial plan.
Despite, Shein not being admitted to the US stock exchange, the company could benefit from their plan in London.
British financial markets has been down, with fewer IPOs and a need for significant listings to revive interest.
Shein’s potential IPO could provide a much-needed boost to the UK economy.
