Gucci goes Vegan 🥬
This Week in Review☕️ : Sweetgreen and Shake Shack | Europes Busiest Shopping Street | The Latest Race in Luxury Fashion | The New Pandemic Hero | Athletes vs Large Corporations | Oxford Style Piazza
Quick Bites :
Dining 🍽 : Meet the new pandemic hero- The Drive Thru.
When Covid-19 hit, people didn't stop going to restaurants; they just went to the drive-thru.
While they were already popular, with Wendy's opening its first one in 1970 followed by McDonald's in 1975, the pandemic has furthered the trend to a whole new level.
Meanwhile, Taco Bell employees at the drive thru watching our Subaru pull up for our 3rd Naked Chicken Chalupa today 🌮 👇🏻
Even as vaccinations increase, it's clear that minimal contact with customers is the safest way to increase sales.
The result has been a burst of creativity and fierce competition for real estate.
New entrants like billion-dollar salad startup- Sweetgreen and Shake Shack are trying to revolutionize the game via a more modern pick-up experience by integrating their apps and a sleek design.
As drive thru visits soared in the pandemic, one of the few chains to capitalize on this shift was McDonald's.
“We moved something like 300 million additional cars through our drive-thrus,”
-McDonald’s CEO in January
By Q4, 2020, the burger chain announced it will create dual drive-thru lanes to allow 2 customers to order simultaneously, and even a 3rd lane for larger orders.
Our Thoughts💡: POV this week 👀 :
Dialing into Zoom from the Dunkin' drive-thru. And damn.. their new Butter Pecan Sundae Latte is the MVP of this meeting 🙌🏻
PS. Can Dunkin' execs bring back the Banana-split flavor? Please?! We need the potassium to get back to our health routine 🍌
Sports ⚽️ : Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo snubbed Coke at a Euro 2020 press conference last week.
A great decision for an athlete that takes care of his health
A not-so-great decision for Coke, coming from a dude with 300 million Instagram followers at an event sponsored by Coke
As a result, Coca Cola- one of the tournament’s official sponsors- lost $4bn in market value.
💡Elon Musk: My tweet can plummet billions worth of crypto
💡Ronaldo: Hold my Coke 🥤
As it stands, Cristiano Ronaldo has moved more Coke bottles than England has scored goals lmao
Corporations are becoming increasingly aware to ensure an adequate link between brands and their chosen influencers.
Shortly after Ronaldo's stunt at Euro 2020:
💡Paul Pogba removed a bottle of Heineken and
💡Italy midfielder Manuel Locatelli removed Coke from his table
Placing fizzy beverages in front of fitness-obsessed footballers? Beer in front of Paul Pogba, a practicing Muslim?
You kidding?!
Our Thoughts💡: Fortunately Coke did the mature thing by saying "Everyone is entitled to their drink preferences" and didn't go suing Ronaldo's perfectly chiseled behind 🙏
But, awareness of the event and the people who associate with it before bringing your brand into it is KEY! 🔑
Fashion 👠 : Gucci joins fashion's latest race to go eco-friendly, Business of Fashion reports.
The luxury powerhouse recently launched its 1st vegan sneaker using a plant-based leather alternative.
The material-"Demetra" is made largely from wood pulp and viscose.
As brands aim to attract young, more environmentally-conscious shoppers, Gucci's vegan shift will launch the brand into the sustainable fashion market.
"Demetra offers an easily scalable, alternative [..] material that also answers the need of animal-free solutions."
-Gucci CEO
Culture 🌈 : As the world celebrates #PrideMonth, large corporations are being called out for minimal to no action to support the LBGQT+ community.
Simply marketing a rainbow-themed product in the month of June has started to come across as increasingly shallow.
Experts say the excess of flashy rainbows has created a facade of commitment towards marginalized people of color.
2021 has been a record year for anti-transgender legislation.Over a 100 new bills have been introduced; the highest number since anti-LGBQT legislation began more than 15 years ago.
This is the time that brands prove they have real skin in the game by actually practicing the inclusivity they preach.
Real support is a year-long commitment to action. Don't let capitalism fool y'all
London 🇬🇧 : "Europe's Busiest Shopping Street", Oxford Circus to be transformed into an Italian-style piazza.
We thought it said "Italian-style Pizza" and now we're furious because we wanted pizza 🍕🍕
An authentic Tuscan pizza. With a generous portion of prosciutto, cured ham, chunks of mozzarella, pecorino and puréed fresh tomatoes.
Maybe throw in a basil or two as well 🌿
Due to the unhealthy air quality and congestion, Westminster City Council will implement "significant improvements" to incorporate more green spaces and seating for shoppers, The Guardian reports.
“In the aftermath of the pandemic, [..]a business-as-usual approach will no longer work".
This will "create an iconic destination at the heart of London.”
In addition, a new tube line is expected to bring an extra 60 millions pedestrians a year to the area, The Guardian.
Our Thoughts💡: Can't wait to dine al fresco at Bao in the Oxford Circus piazza.
Tuck into those famous pillowy Taiwanese buns followed by a trip to Nike to scoop up the latest Air Jordans 👟
