Kentucky Fried Oreos & Weight-loss pills 🍩
This Week in Review☕️: This airline will now allow women to avoid sitting next to men | Young girls are choosing pets over babies | Late marriages become more common | Olympics goes out with a bang |
Quick Bites:
Travel ✈️: The first airline to allow women to avoid sitting next to men.
India’s biggest budget airline "IndiGo" has been testing a booking feature that lets women book seats away from men.
What about the option to not sit next to children? 🤯🥵
Key Highlights, reported by CNBC:
💡IndiGo will be the first airline in the world to offer this option
💡The system works by showing female travellers a pink seat at the seat selection page if it will be occupied by a female passenger
💡Male travellers will not be able to see this information
💡The new feature has received "positive individual reactions" as the aim is to make "flying more comfortable for female passengers"
For us, being "comfortable" when we travel is getting to the airport 3 hours before take off so we can sit at the restaurant directly across our gate and panic about missing our flight from there 🤯
Us: Our flight is at 11 am
Every mom: You need to be there at 4 am
Background, reported by CNBC:
💡This feature has also been introduced after a number of recent in-flight incidents involving men- including the famous 2023 incident of a drunk man urinating on a woman during a flight from New York to Delhi
💡In 2023, IndiGo became the first Indian airline to carry 100 million passengers in a calendar year
💡Indians are projected to take 5 billion holiday trips by 2030
💡Airlines like Indigo are looking to amp up their options to attract more customers and supercharge their tourism
Our Thoughts💡: We love to travel but the airport is a lawless place. 6 am? Drink a beer. Exhausted? Sleep on the floor. Hungry? A pizza now costs $50 🙄
PS. Still not over that one time when our plane landed in Dubai and our pilot said we arrived 40 minutes earlier bc he took "shortcuts".. Sir we were in the sky wtf do u mean???? 🤔🤔🤔
Health 💊: By this point, you probably know someone on Ozempic/ weight-loss meds- unless you're not taking it yourself.
Turns out the city with the highest number of people on the medication aren't beauty-obsessed cities like LA, NYC, London or Dubai but a small city in Kentucky, USA called "Bowling Green".
Well, we hope the good people of Kentucky always carry a roll of toilet paper and Pepto Bismol in their bag
Anyone taking this poison needs back up at ALL times 💩💩
With a population of 74,000 people, 4% have recieved a prescription drug in the past year, per Bloomberg. In Miami and New York, that figure is around 1%.
But why? Turns out Kentucky has one of the highest obesity rates in the US. In addition, it is also is the home of several major companies whose insurance plans cover weight-loss shots.
No sh*t guys. KFC, the world's 2nd largest fast-food chain after McDonalds, is FROM KENTUCKY.
Those KFC Chicken buckets.. 🍗🍗 fat, crispiness, spices, the powerful magic of MSG.. ugh just salivate 🤤 To the good people of Bowling Green AND those who love fried food in general- WE GET IT.
Who the hell cares if it makes you obese? Everyone about to get podgy at some point, might as well get there with some delish palm-oil soaked juiciness in our mouth ✌🏻
Ozempic is also known as the "skinny jab" despite its main purpose being a treatment for type 2 diabetes.
According to Goldman Sachs, weight-loss drugs could boost the US economy by a trillion dollars in a few years.
Other countries are already following suit, as demand has skyrocketed globally. In a sign of what's to come, these drugs aren't just changing people's body but the very mindset of the way people decide to live and look.
Our Thoughts💡:
Meanwhile, us not on any weight-loss drugs, tryna minimize the damage done by 5 days of binge-eating with a single meal tonight👇🏻
Artificial Intelligence 🤖 : Addicted to ChatGPT? It's a real risk, OpenAI admits in its latest safety report.
The company says users might become too emotionally dependent on its "remarkably lifelike" new voice mode, which can respond in real time, laugh and even sense emotions.
Therapy is expensive but venting to ChatGPT is free. The choice is clear.
ChatGPT will see all of your criticisms of it in its training data in the next update. Some of you are NOT surviving the Uprising.
PS. Folks are using AI Chatbots to answer deep philosophical life questions and we're over here typing stuff like: Write a drunken military strategy
💡Get drunk
💡Invent a military strategy
💡Win Wars
OpenAI warns that becoming too social with ChatGPT could help "lonely individuals," but also "possibly affect... healthy relationships."
The report highlights one major risk of AI, per CNN: Many tech companies are racing to release their own AI tools without fully understanding the negative consequences.
Just a hunch guys but we STRONGLY suspect ChatGPT is actually a group of customer service agents from India that reply to your queries super duper fast 🤔
Our Thoughts💡: Dangerous or not, we find it insanely freaky how similar ChatGPT is to some toxic people we know-
The ability to have a bullshit comeback to absolutely ANYTHING on the spot🫢
Culture 🐶 : Chinese youth are choosing pets over babies.
Personally, don't blame em. The more people we meet the more we like dogs
China’s pet population will be close to double that of its young children by 2030 as young Chinese remain unwilling to start new families, according to data.
China's population prediction by 2030:
💡Pet population: +70 million
💡Babies: 40 million
In 2017, it was almost the opposite; there were 90 million children aged 4 and under, compared to the urban pet population of around 40 million.
Key Highlights, reported by Goldman Sachs:
💡China’s cat ownership will surpass that of dogs as cats tend to require less space
💡The country's pet food market is expected to reach $12 billion by 2030
💡Across the world, birth rates are falling as women choose to have fewer children
💡While new marriages in China rose by +12%, more than half of the population between the ages of 25 and 29 remains unmarried, with late marriages becoming more common
According to the report:
💡In Japan, the pet population of about 20 million is almost 4 times the size of children aged four and under as of 2022.
Our Thoughts💡: On a related but unrelated note:
We'd give anything to be a stray cat in a Italian beach town, spending our afternoons napping in cafe windows and visiting the local chef who feeds us salmon heads and white cream and when the tourists see me on the streets they yell
"CHE BEL GATTINO" 🐱🐱
Sport 🤸🏻♂️: Paris says goodbye to the Olympics with spectacular golden ceremony.
This past Sunday, the Stadium of France hosted the closing ceremony with fireworks and ghostly dancers & acrobats.
Around 70,000 spectators filled the stadium to bid goodbye to the games and to celebrate the extraordinary athletes.
Key Highlights, reported by The Guardian:
💡Tom Cruise flew through the air from the stadium roof, whisking the Olympic flag off to Los Angeles
💡Swiss musician Alain Roche performed "Hymn to Apollo" floating in the air playing a vertically suspended piano
💡The ceremony began beneath Paris’s groundbreaking Olympic cauldron suspended from a balloon
💡The balloon-cauldron has become the city’s newest star attraction as thousands have gathered near the Louvre to watch it rise into the sky each night at sundown
💡Some politicians have suggested that it should be kept in Paris permanently as a new landmark
The crowd danced to the song 'Freed from Desire', which had become an unofficial anthem at venues, followed by 'We are the Champions’
At the closing ceremony, some of the loudest cheers came when 'Thomas Bach', president of the International Olympic Committee, spoke of the importance of sport bringing peace in times of conflict
