Lululemon & Lettuce 🥬
This Week in Review☕️: A Global Party Ban | Food-borne illnesses rise | Pet Sales drop as more people return to the office | Lululemon is betting on men to expand | The Last Supermoon of the year is on
Billionaires wanted it, but 54,578 everyday investors got it first.. and profited.
When incredibly rare and valuable assets come up for sale, it's typically the wealthiest people that end up taking home an amazing investment. But not always…
One platform is taking on the billionaires at their own game, buying up and fractionalizing some of history’s most prized blue-chip artworks for its investors. In just the last few years, its investors have realized annualized net returns of 17.8%, 21.5%, 35% and more from these opportunities.
It's called Masterworks. When Masterworks sells a painting- like the 15 it's already sold- investors reap their portion of the profits.

Quick Bites:
Food🥬: Another one bites the dust.. the once popular Iceberg Lettuce aka the "Polyester of Greens" might be headed towards it's demise.
We mean.. if you smother it in an avalanche of blue cheese & smash it to death in a food processor.. it tastes just fine
The world's obsession with lettuce dwindles as "Listeria", a potentially deadly bacteria, has been found in many ready-to-eat salads.
Umm we're old enough to recall the e.coli outbreak in romaine like a year ago and the listeria outbreak in spinach the year before that. Ugh its always leafy greens right?🤔
Y'all know what's never contaminated? Pizza, burgers and french fries. FACTS💯
In the US, listeria is the 3rd leading cause of death from food-borne illness, killing about 260 people a year, according to the CDC.
In general, diseases from food continue to rise as efforts to prevent them fail.
“Even with adequate antibiotic treatment, the disease has a high mortality rate” of 20% to 30%, CNN reports.
Our Thoughts:
🥩 Salmonella in raw meat
🥬 Listeria in lettuce
🍣 Anisakis in sushi
🐠 Vibriosis in shellfish
🍎 Cholera in fruits and veggies
Our digestive system having a wild year so far🤯
PS. Covid is SO passé at this point
Artificial Intelligence 📱: Airbnb is using AI to limit parties.
Airbnb has spent 3 years developing an algorithm to figure out a worldwide ban on parties.
From battling party "collusion" to flagging "repeat party houses", the company has successfully designed an anti-party AI system, CNBC reports.
Background: In August 2020, Airbnb announced a global party ban at its listings, including a cap on occupancy at 16 people.
Umm.. way to have a finger on the pulse, Airbnb. In what world is 16 people a safe number to have a party during Covid? That's a damn PARTY
PS. If only house-sharing was actually about sharing a house and not getting accidentally turnt having 12 beers for breakfast🙄
However, post the ban, there has been a global 55% drop in parties reported on Airbnb between August 2020 and August 2022.
In addition, more than 320,000 guests have been blocked or redirected from booking attempts, CNBC.
The artificial intelligence models look at a ton of factors including:
💡The reservation’s closeness to the user’s birthday
💡The user’s age
💡Length of stay
💡The listing’s proximity to where the user is based
💡Weekend vs. weekday
💡Whether the listing is in a popular location.
Work Culture 💻: Return-to-office policy takes toll on pet-food sales.
Pet treats, in particular, saw a double-digit decline in sales in the most recent quarter at food giant General Mills, Fortune reports.
Hmm.. we feel a lot of media outlets are pushing WFH. Like drop it already. Some of us like working around other people in an in-person setting.
On a related but unrelated note: Why is it ok to call oatwater 'milk' but we have to call our real milk 'pet food'
Funny times 🤷🏻♀️
Sales from beds to supplements, which surged during the pandemic as more people adopted pets, are now dropping.
With back to the office mandates, "pet parents are increasingly away from home."
Petco and Chewy are are both down more than 50% on the stock market this year, Bloomberg reports.
Our Thoughts💡: A short-term fix might be allowing employees to bring their pets to the workplace.. because don't you wanna be the person your dog thinks you are?!
Tbh, the presence of pets isn't just for their benefit but also for ours! From reducing stress to having a cute lil companion greet you, pets in the workplace could contribute to a much happier work environment! 🐶
PS. We are 100% pet-friendly company. BIG DOG MOM ENERGY OUT HERE. NO ONE, we mean noone, neglects our furry friends 🤎
Fitness👟: And Lululemon leads the fitness wars!
Sales of the brand's pricey athletic wear have doubled since 2019, reaching $8.11 billion last year, The Wall Street Journal reports.
The post-workout jitters leaving our body as we sip our blueberry smoothie in our Lululemon fit' 😍
Revenues have increased 37% on average each year since 2004 (UNREAL when dealing with such massive figures)
According to WSJ, this is mainly because Lululemon has been able to engage GenZ via social media while using nostalgia music to still cater to its original customers- aka their moms.
The company is even courting Dads these days, stating "men's is still one of our best-kept secrets" as they have "much more runway with male shoppers".
The apparel company announced a new 5-year plan to double sales to $12.5 billion by 2026, in part by expanding its offerings to men.
Long story short: Lululemon has essentially been able to retain both generations, resulting in a multigenerational following of both genders.
Our Thoughts💡: In one word, describe your fall chill wardrobe aesthetic. Ours👇🏻

Space🌚: Calling all Astronomy fans!
This week will bring the last Supermoon of the year called the “Harvest Moon”.
It will rise between Thursday night and Friday morning.
Key Highlights, by Axios:
💡“Harvest moon" refers to the nearest full moon to the autumnal equinox, which marks the official end of summer and beginning of fall.
💡During equinoxes, the sun is exactly above the Equator, meaning day and night are almost exactly the same lengths.
💡Harvest moons and the near-full moons around them historically gave harvesters more time to gather crops before the first frost, according to NASA
💡They're significant to many cultures, signifying abundance, success and preparation for a new year and a new agricultural cycle.
