Quick Bites:
Marriage💍: Diamond ring sales drop.
We all know the Beyoncé song- "If you liked it then you shoulda put a ring on it" or the Marilyn Monroe classic "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend".
But in reality, jewellers claim the pandemic destroyed many singles of the opportunity to meet "the one", leading to a lot less diamond ring shopping, NY Times reports.
Over the last 50 years, the marriage rate in the US has dropped by nearly 60%, according to a 2023 Axios report.
In addition, while luxury brands like Tiffany & Co. continue to report strong sales, the average citizen is becoming more cautious given rising inflation and increasing layoffs.
The famous rule of spending "a 2-month salary on an engagement ring" has become a distant future for many in this uncertain economy.
Let's be honest guys, buying a diamond ring is the GREATEST marketing scam of all time🤯
And it all started with DeBeers "Diamonds are forever" campaign in 1948 when they convinced every woman that a ring equates to love.
Umm.. because what says true love like a good ol' 10-carat emerald cut right? 🤔
Diamonds aren't really forever guys- De Beers jus told you they were.
If you don’t believe us, just head toYoutube and search for “smashing a diamond” to see 748936534 videos of people smashing diamonds into a gazillion pieces with a hammer 🔨
Our Thoughts💡: Just goes to show how game-changing marketing campaigns have shaped history.
"Breakfast being the most important meal of the day" is another example.
Genius advertising by Kellogs combined with the fact that we're a bunch of happy little Vegemites, avocado toast + all-day-long egg lovers 🍳
In the United States, Ferrero, maker of Nutella, ACTUALLY convinced folks that the chocolate spread was 'part of a nutritious breakfast' 🍫🍫
Yep.. shocking but true!!🤷🏻♀️
Food & Drinks🍹: The drink of this summer isn't rosé . It's a fresh 'Orange Julius'.
Restaurants and bars are concocting new orange-flavoured recipes as citrus has a comeback, Bloomberg reports.
Guys, get your wallets out. $30 for a frozen orange comin' up 🍊🍊
An Orange Julius is a mall food-court classic; frothy and boozy, it's the perfect refresher for the summer- if you're of age ofcourse.
Remember to sip responsibly guys! This content is only for those of legal drinking age. No underage drinking promoted by Touristy. Ever.
Our Thoughts💡: By popular demand, here is a list of our top 10 things this summer:
💡Orange Julius
💡Red roses
💡Lindt milk chocolate
💡Lavender body wash
💡Starbucks Venti White Mocha
💡Liquorice
💡Linens
💡Extra guac
💡McDonalds with anything
Sports 🎾: Novak Djokovic won the French Open Men's Singles Final in Paris at Roland Garros.
He won his 23rd Grand Slam- one more than Rafael Nadal with whom he previously shared the record.
Despite being banned from the US, Australia and other countries for refusing to getting Covid vaccination, Djokovic made history this weekend.
Lets be honest, who needs a Pfizer when you have Grand Slam titles right?! 🙌🏻
"I was 7-year old dreaming I could win Wimbledon one day and become no.1 in the world."
"I feel I had the power to create my own destiny. I want to say to every young person if you want a better future, you can create it."
Our Thoughts💡: We were just wondering how crazy it is that Serbia is responsible for just 0.1% of the world's population, yet is home to one of the most iconic athletes of our time: Novak Djokovic 💯
Some would argue he's the best tennis player of our generation.
Serbians, how y'all feeling right now? 🚀
Entertainment 🎥 : Striking writers disrupt Hollywood TV and movie shoots, costing millions in damages.
These writers are blocking deliveries to sets, shutting production-lot entrances and photobombing scenes shot in public places, according to WSJ.
“Billions,” “Severance" and “American Horror Story” are among the productions that have recently been delayed, disrupted or postponed due to demonstrations by the strike.
UGH we're all for movie execs paying their damn writers but Billions getting delayed👇🏻
Key Highlights, according to Variety:
💡This is the 1st Hollywood strike in 15 years
💡The last strike, from the same union in 2007, took 3 months to resolve
💡The union is seeking higher minimum pay, more writers per show and less exclusivity on single projects, among other demands
💡The writers have been forming picket lines across LA and NYC outside major studios
Key quotes by some of the WGA writers:
💡“Everything’s changed, but the money has changed in the wrong direction"
💡"It’s a turning point in the industry right now. And if we don’t get back to even, we never will”
💡"We'll stay out as long as it takes"
💡"I’ve had the opportunity to write on great shows that are very, very popular and not really seen the compensation for that, unfortunately”
