Millennials, Marriage & Money💰
This Week in Review☕️: More unmarried couples are moving in together | Amazon wants to get rid of its signature brown delivery boxes | Champagne sales are booming | UK launches new toilet policy | Food
Quick Bites:
Finance x Relationships❤️: 65% of unmarried millennial couples today are moving in together before tying the knot, CNBC reports.
Umm.. no sh*t. You don't buy a car without taking it for a test drive
Majority of these couples cite financial reasons as a contributing factor.
However, many don't share costs equally: 52% don't split their rent or mortgage equally and not every couple is happy with their set up.
Infact, more than 1 in 3 couples surveyed said they felt financially unequal in their relationship, CNBC.
Umm.. our spouse gets the cheque but our looks make up for it ;)
Ok guys, when is it ok to split the bill with a girl?
1. When Bitcoin is under $10k
2. When her Tinder pics don't match her irl
3. When she order the lobster but you got a side salad
4. When you wanna be friend-zoned
Our Thoughts💡: We totally understand that money can be a sensitive subject to talk about with your partner but it's KEY to discuss beforehand🙏🏻
Gotta manage EXPECTATIONS vs REALITY guys👇🏻
Tech 📦: Amazon wants to ship your order without a box, but your neighbours might then see your wart medicine and toilet roll 🚽
Amazon has long-faced criticism about the environmental impact of its signature brown delivery boxes.
Now, in an initiative to reduce costs and be more environment-friendly, it is actively reducing the number of Amazon boxes shoppers receive and cutting on most excess packaging, The Wall Street Journal reports.
Key Highlights, according to WSJ:
💡Currently, around 11% of Amazon’s deliveries have no extra packaging
💡Customers have the option at checkout whether they want extra packaging
💡Amazon is working with suppliers to redesign its packaging so its strong enough to survive shipping
💡The company is also changing its logistics network so that items don’t have to travel as far as they used to. Today, items travel 15% less distance and are handled 12% fewer times during shipping.
A similar initiative was launched by Uber Eats and Visa earlier this January.
The companies partnered together to give restaurants access to a $1 million fund for sustainable packaging.
Our Thoughts💡: When you bought 3 items from Amazon to meet the $30 minimum for same-day delivery but they don't deliver it that day @AMAZONCUSTOMERSERVICE !!!! 😡
PS. We in our prime. Bezos couldnt f**k with our deliveries if he tried 😎
Culture 🌎: UK toilets must have single-sex male and female options in new policy, The Telegraph reports.
And dudes in dresses still go in the dudes
This policy will apply to all non-residential buildings amid a recent rise in "gender-neutral" toilets in office buildings.
The government is aiming to protect the privacy for women and elderly individuals.
"The signage on the door should clearly indicate what to expect."
"It is extremely important women can feel comfortable when using public facilities, so we are taking action to restore dignity and privacy."
Our Thoughts💡: And finally we see some common sense! "Gender-neutral" is just a polite term for unisex and let's be honest guys- NO ONE, absolutely noone, wants a unisex toilet.
Except for predators.
Drinks🥂: Champagne sales are booming but it might not taste the same due to climate change, CNBC reports.
Champagne taste on a seltzer budget fml
Champagne remains an icon of luxury; more than 325 million bottles were shipped from Champagne in 2022, surpassing $.6.6 billon in sales for the first time, according to champagne trade association Comité Champagne.
It was also recently reported that champagne outperformed gold and the S&P 500.
From January to September 2022, a case of all-Chardonnay 2012 Salon Le Mesnil rose by 232%, from £3,800 to £12,600, according to Liv-Ex, the London International Vintners Exchange.
However, Europe's soaring temperatures are sparking concern that France's Champagne region could soon become unsuitable for production.
The region’s exposure to physical risk caused by drought is set to almost triple by the 2050s, CNBC.
International brands are aware of the massive impact climate change can have on their businesses.
″If the grapes get exposed to too extreme UV rays, then they will get the equivalent of our sunburn and that will basically … damage the flavor”
The additional heat can also change the grapes’ acidity, which gives champagne its freshness and “intangible zip and zing”
Natural Disasters 🌲: The death toll from Maui’s wildfires reached 96 on Monday and is expected to keep rising.
Last week's fires on Hawaii’s second-biggest island have already become America’s deadliest in more than a century.
Officials estimated more than $5 billion in funds will be needed to rebuild from the destruction.
Over 2,700 structures were destroyed in Lahaina and 4,500 customers remained without power.
