Quick Bites:
Russia 🇷🇺 : As Putin's aggression makes headlines, it is now clear that no Russian leader since Tsar Nicholas II has caused his country so much damage, so damn fast.
Russia has been cut off from world trade, destroying half a century of economic prosperity- all because of one man.
Fast-fashion giant Uniqlo decided to stop trading in Russia last week due to "worsening of the conflict situation".
Placing a gigantic Uniqlo order today in gratitude!🙏
Other Japanese firms suspending operations include Hitachi, Sony, Nintendo.
Other big companies who have halted business in Russia:
💡Stolichnaya vodka is rebranding as "Stoli" in order to distance itself from association with Russia
💡Heineken, Carlsberg, Unilever and L'Oreal joined multiple other consumer goods brands in boycotting Russia.
💡After facing intense backlash, McDonald's, Starbucks and Coca-Cola have halted operations
💡Visa, Mastercard and American Express have suspended operations
💡Adidas is ending its partnership with the Russian Football Union
💡Nike has stopped sales from its online store
💡Disney, Sony and Warner Bros. have paused planned film releases in Russia
💡Boeing has "ceased providing parts and technical support" to airlines in Russia
💡Volkswagen and Volvo have stopped exports
Damn we wouldn't wanna be Putin right now 🙈
Our Thoughts💡: No closed fly-zone, No fast-track European Union membership, No Ukrainian NATO alliance, No Russia trade embargo.
Despite multinationals halting operations, the truth is that the mighty west has folded in the face of aggression faster than Hitler in 1939. Never again my a** 👋
NFTs 📈 : Have NFTs become over-saturated?
The average selling price of NFTs has dropped over 48% since November 2021, the FT reports.
It's almost as if a jpeg someone could make in a millisecond isn't worth gazillions anymore.. Imagine that
The go-to marketplace for NFTs, OpenSea, has seen daily trading plunge this March, with analysts warning of “saturation in certain parts of the market”.
We're not surprised. When concepts like "NFTs" turn into a verb in like, 10 months, this sh*t is bound to happen🙈
The plunge undermines the the long-term value of the digital tokens which have taken the internet by storm, primarily due to hype from celebs like Eminem and Paris Hilton.
A look at some of the latest celebs and brands endorsing NFTs:
💡Shaquille O’Neal: Bought into the Mutant Ape Yacht Club- which tbh is pretty much like getting accepted into the LA Soho House.. exclusive AF
💡Justin Bieber: Recently bought a BAYC NFT for 300% more than its estimated value
💡Kevin Hart: Recently purchased BAYC No. 9258 for around $200,000
💡Diesel: The denim brand is dropping its first NFTs
💡Hermes: Sold the iconic “Baby Birkin” NFT for $47,000 (approx 4 times of the bag's retail value)
💡Gucci: Collaborated with other household NFT brands, such as Balenciaga to bring the "Aria" collection in 2021
Our Thoughts💡: In other word, the über wealthy have now found a new way to stash, embezzle and transfer their money lmao
Welcome to 2022. The Future is Non-Fungible🚀
Mental Health: Covid-19 has revealed a recovery gap between hard-hit industries like travel and retail vs sectors like IT and finance, LinkedIn data reports.
No wonder employees are breaking down. The pandemic experience has been different for every single person in the workforce.
“Employers must invest and understand that their people are human beings. Organisations have to create spaces where people can be their true selves."
-Medley co-founder Edith Cooper
This comes as Prince Harry urged employers to give staff more time to focus on their mental health, as he opened up about his own struggles with burnout recently.
Ok.. but we still haven't figured out what The Duke of Sussex gets burnout from?🤷🏻♀️
Our Thoughts💡: We're all for mental health but a part of us believes the work-related paranoia is a ploy by the GenZ workforce to permanently work from home, crash the economy and elect Bernie Sanders.. just sayin'
Women 👧 : International Women’s Day was on March 8th but many members say women's social, economic and cultural achievements "should be championed all year round."
The discussion of women empowerment has never been greater.
Large corporations are being called out for minimal to no action to support gender equality in the workplace.
Simply hashtagging "#BreaktheBias" in the month of March has started to come across as increasingly shallow.
Experts say the excess of social media posts has created a facade of commitment towards women equality.
This is the time that brands and companies prove they have real skin in the game by actually practicing the inclusivity they preach.
Our Thoughts💡: Real support is a year-long commitment to action. Don't let the media fool y'all 👋
