This Week in Review ☕️: Musk makes media moves | The pandemic landscape is changing | Uber transforms into Super App status | Selfcare is not selfish | Shanghai faces uproar as children are isolated |
Quick Bites:
Big Tech 📲 : Elon Musk announced he has taken a 9.2% stake in Twitter for $2.9bn- making him the largest shareholder.
Elon spent 1% of his net worth to buy 9% of Twitter. We spent 1% of our net worth on McDonald's new value meal🤷🏻♀️
Top Twitter shareholders as of date:
💡Elon musk: 9.2%
💡Vanguard- 8.8%
💡Morgan Stanley- 8.4%
💡Blackrock: 6.5%
Key Highlights:
💡The deal prohibits Musk from buying more than 14.9% of the company's stock
💡Musk asked his followers if they wanted an "Edit button" to be added on the social platform
💡Musk will serve as a Class II director until 2024
💡He recently accused Twitter of "failing to adhere" to free speech principles
Elon just got on the board of Twitter, Bezos owns the Washington Post, Bill Gates has invested over $300mn in media platforms. Free speech? My a** 👋
Elon Musk's endeavors:
💡Smokes weed on Youtube publicly and SpaceX gets a $3bn contract to to go the moon for it
💡Space joy rides for the filthy rich
💡Self-driving cars
💡Underground trains
💡Amber Heard for an ex
💡Buys 9% of Twitter just to install an 'edit' button
Is there anything this man cannot do?!
Our Thoughts💡: Trump being back on Twitter during Biden as POTUS and a potential WWIII is the entertainment the world needs right now. Let's make it happen @Elon?
Pandemic 🦠 : What will it take for the Covid-19 'pandemic' to become an 'endemic'? By the coronavirus resolving into a disease we learn to live with- and it nearly has.
Umm.. It's not something we "learn to live with". It resolves into something we accept a certain group of people die with 🙏
According to the New York Times:
💡An 'endemic' disease is one that persists, with a constant and predictable presence. It can be mild or deadly and can infect millions of people annually, or even kill thousands
💡We don't know what endemic Covid will look like as we are still in the acute phase of the pandemic
💡Health experts say Covid-19 cannot be eliminated, so measures like vaccinations and medication will determine the nature of future waves
So we failed to duck Covid- and now we gotta live with it ?! Masks and jabs forever
F**king great
Our Thoughts💡:
BREAKING NEWS: Omicron's new cousin- The Omicron XE variant has been discovered and it could be harder to track.
WTF IS THIS? A FAMILY GATHERING?!
Omicron & his fam coming to crush our summer plans 👇🏻
Travel ✈️ : Uber is transforming into a "super app" for travel.
The company will add travel booking options to its UK app this year including flights, train tickets and car rentals.
Uber move💯
The ride-sharing company wants to become a "one-stop-shop" for travel by offering a "seamless door-to-door experience".
Uber isn't offering these services itself; it will partner with companies that provide them and leverage its software for it to be accessible to its customers at scale.
Our Thoughts💡: We strongly believe companies must innovate and build adjacencies to stay relevant. We've seen other tech giants go in the same direction already:
💡Google Maps
💡Google recently offering to book doctor appointments through its search engine
💡Meta offering a secondhand marketplace
💡Stripe, which recently re-launched support for crypto payments
Culture 🛀 : Self-care is no longer considered selfish. After the past two years we've had, we just have to pause and simply ask: does this really make us happy?
Making your own mental and physical health a priority is the theme of 2022.
Self-care rituals suggested by us:
💡Staying low-key and not giving a sh*t what others think
💡Keeping it private until you know its permanent
💡Being mindful of who you allow into your circle
💡Learn to say no
💡Avoiding the midnight sugar binge
💡Make whole foods your dopamine hit
💡Stay active; walk to feel less tired
💡Skipping the booze and opting for herbal tea
💡STAYING HYDRATED
