Scarlett Johansson & $100 million in taxes
This Week in Review☕️: Extreme heat is causing Migraines | Hollywood actress goes after ChatGPT | Donald Trump net worth soars | Gen Z wants work with purpose | Disneyland votes to unionize | Make up
Quick Bites:
Big Tech 🤖 : Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson may sue OpenAI for “stealing” her voice for chatbot ‘Sky’.
Johansson released a statement yesterday stating: She declined ChatGPT’s proposal to use her voice for AI but they used it anyway; “I was shocked, angered and in disbelief”.
One more piece of evidence supporting our gut instinct that Sam Altman is NOT to be trusted 🖕🏻
Umm this seems totally illegal and callous until you remember that it is literally the job of every major AI company to copy all of the data in the world without anyone’s permission at any time in order to train their bots to imitate it 🙄🙄🙄
OpenAI’s response💡: It has denied copying Johansson’s voice, but has “paused the use of Sky while it worked to address concerns.”
Artists’ concerns about having their work replicated by AI was a major reason for the strikes that recently crippled Hollywood, CNBC.
Our Thoughts💡: It’s crazy that even someone like Johansson has had to pursue legal action. Consider the MILLIONS of singers, writers, artists, programmers etc, who do not have the resources or power to control what is theirs..?!!
PS. For whoever has taken to social media to rant about Scarlett vs Sam:
ChatGPT 4.0 will see all your insults on its backend for the next update. Some of you are NOT surviving the uprising
Politics 💰: Donald Trump slammed with $100 million tax-bill.
According to the latest IRS audit, the former President has been accused of doubling his tax write-offs for his 'Trump Tower' skyscraper in Chicago.
Meanwhile, we gotta do our taxes AS SOON as we get home. The IRS just sent us a picture of our cousin handcuffed to a radiator 🤯
Trump's taxes have been the subject of ridicule since it was publicly revealed that he has paid as little as $750 in federal income tax in the past.
If you currently pay more tax than Trump, raise your hand. 🙋🏻♀️
PS. Let us get this straight.. Trump bills $100 million visiting his own golf course in Mar-a-Lago and US citizens, aka the taxpayer, pay for his 18-hole swing.
Wow.. Can someone send his accountant our way?
Key Highlights, reported by Forbes:
💡Despite his legal troubles, Trump’s real time net worth stands at $7.7 billion
💡He is the world’s 346th richest person as of date
💡In addition, Trump’s net worth has soared even higher since his social media platform 'Truth Social' made its Wall Street debut
💡His majority stake in 'Trump Media' has doubled to roughly $5.6 million
Majority of Trump’s net worth also comes from his expansive real estate holdings including $1.1 billion in properties, including in New York, Chicago and Las Vegas
$810 million in luxury golf clubs and resorts, including his Mar-a-Lago Florida estate, the crown jewel of his property portfolio.
Our Thoughts💡:
What's considered trashy if you're poor, but classy if you're rich?
TAX EVASION.
Health 🧠 : Have any of you been getting increased headaches?
Climate change has led to more unpredictable weather, leading to migraines, NBC News reports.
Us in India right now💡: Thanks to the massive drop in air pollution the land of Mordor is finally visible again from the Shire 👇🏻
There is evidence that extreme weather, like extreme heat or cold, can trigger headaches.
These weather changes may trigger a migraine by disrupting the balance of chemicals in the brain, like serotonin, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Sorry at the ER, we don't treat migraines with drugs that help migraines. You could be a crackhead for God sakes!
How about ineffective crap, a pat on the back and MAYBE not living in a wasteland or what you call a "city" which has air pollution spiked 100x beyond breathable levels 😶🌫️😶🌫️😶🌫️😶🌫️
In the US especially, headaches caused by climate change has impacted people's daily activites- including missing social events or being less productive at work, according to a recent study.
How to treat migraines, reported by NBC:
Over-the-counter supplements, prescription medications, self-administered injections, wearable devices.
Not all treatment requires medication. Basic everyday conditions- dehydration, sleep deprivation, skipping meals and emotional stress, can trigger symptoms.
Work 💻 : Today's generation want work with purpose.
Almost 90% of Gen Zs and Millennials say: A sense of purpose is key to their job satisfaction.
Ofcourse young people want a greater connection with their job. We're overworked, underpaid and under-appreciated. It's just a perk of being middle-class and educated.
PS. When your boss tells you that you actually have to come into the office everyday 👇🏻
Key Highlights, reported by Deloitte's 2024 Gen Z and Millennial Survey of 23,000 respondents worldwide:
💡50% of Gen Zs and 43% of millennials say they've rejected an assignment "based on their personal ethics or beliefs"
💡Around 75% of these younger workers said that a company's community engagement and societal impact is big factor in choosing a workplace
💡Around 1/3 of respondents say that their job and their work/life balance contribute a lot to their stress levels
Office loyalty going down, combined with mass layoffs and the cost of living crisis, have added to the growing feeling of young people wanting a greater connection with their work.
Things we hate about our job:
1. Getting out of bed
2. People
3. People
4. People
Big Tech 📱: Meta slammed with child safety allegations from the EU, Reuters reports.
The EU is investigating whether Facebook and Instagram “may stimulate behavioural addictions in children, as well as create so-called ‘rabbit-hole effects’.”
Much-needed investigation.. Teens today be blocking their parents from IG but still expect them to pay for college 🙏🏻
To all our girlies, it's called social media, not drama media. You're not going to be nominated for an Instagram caption Emmy.
TAKE IT DOWN A NOTCH 🙄
The EU added that it is concerned about age verifications, as well as privacy risks linked to the recommendations algorithms.
Meta is already under scrutiny from the EU over election disinformation. Any election-related violations can lead to fines of as much as 6% of a company's annual global turnover, Reuters reports.
Meta's response💡: “We want young people to have safe, age-appropriate experiences online and have spent a decade developing more than 50 tools and policies designed to protect them.”
“This is a challenge the whole industry is facing."
Our Thoughts💡:
You know we might have believed Mark in the past but alas.. his actions:
💡Copied Facebook from MySpace
💡Copied Reels from TikTok
💡Copied Stories from Snapchat
💡Copied Blue Tick verification from Elon
💡Copied the FULL Twitter app
Based of his resume, he should be locked up. This man is a COMPLETE FRAUD ✋
Business🎢: Disneyland characters vote to unionize.
You can now add Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy to the growing list of people seeking better pay.
After 3 days of voting last week, 1,700 Disneyland Resort cast members who play characters around the theme parks have unionized in a "landslide victory", CNN reports.
Personally, we're not happy about this news.
Therapist: Close your eyes and go to your happiest place. Where are you?
Us: 👇🏻
Key Highlights, reported by CNN:
💡There are more than 21,000 Disneyland “cast member” employees, who are represented by more than a dozen unions
💡Those jobs include retail, food service, security, pyrotechnic, and hair and makeup.
💡The union is demanding higher wages given the higher cost of living, greater scheduling transparency and improved workplace conditions
