Quick Bites:
Winter Storm ❄️ : Over 50 deaths have been linked to a severe storm that continues to batter the US and Canada.
In western New York, families have been scrambling to find food and medicine after a historic blizzard blocked roads and cut off electricity, forcing many supermarkets and pharmacies to close.
Every year we read the same news💡: Freezing weather, blizzard alerts, power cuts. Headlines saying unhoused people are under risk. YET, the cities don't open warming centers despite knowing a giant storm is coming. They will ONLY open them at -15 without windchill or if "conditions warrant it".
Can we just skip the damn routine?! 🙏
Open the warming centers and first and foremost, GIVE UNHOUSED PEOPLE HOUSING!! Ppl literally falling dead out here tf!!!! 🙈🙈🙈🙈
The "once-in-a-lifetime" blizzard has killed at least 57 people nationwide.
"The cold temperatures in combination with dangerous wild chills has created a potentially life-threatening hazard for for travelers", the National Weather Service warns.
Our Thoughts💡: Despite the news telling us to stay home due to hazardous conditions, girls on IG braving the cold as an excuse for a photo-op! 💄
Add the perfect snowy winter caption, white earmuffs and a dash of gloss and suddenly the storm doesn't feel so bad huh ladies? 👇🏻🍭
Food: How many of you will try Veganuary in 2023? Veganuary is a month-long pledge to go vegan in January and hopefully the rest of the year.
It's basically a wake-up call to all the flesh-eating loonies who believe plants have feelings too
Before we go ahead, we just wanna say- we're setting up an in inbox-filter sending anything about dry January or Veganuary to the trash. It's not the events we have an issue with personally, it's just the RELENTLESS marketing around them. We're talking +40 f**king emails per day!
Like GIVE IT A REST. WE LOVE MEAT. 🥩 AND CHEESE. 🧀 AND WINE. 🍷
Tbh, the "smart" advice for us to give would be to live your life in a way that you don't need to reset with:
💡30 Day Challenges
💡Dry January
💡Veganuary
💡Juice cleanses
💡Gym subscriptions
Live in that sweet spot between ALL and NOTHING and enjoy in moderation all year round 💯
Having said that, we ain't that smart and will be officially starting January 1st at 12:01 am🙄
PS. Shout-out to all the folks who had a cruelty-free Christmas in 2022 and a full f**king year of being plant-based & sober already! That sh*t ain’t easy! 🙌🏻
Our Thoughts💡: Apparently, you can beat inflation via Veganuary AND Dry January. Here's how:
💡Eat lentils instead of meat
💡Don't buy in bulk
💡Make almond milk at home
💡Drink OJ instead of wine
💡Nobody said this would be fun
Work 💻 : Tech giants ditch office space.
Google, Meta and Salesforce are ditching offices in Europe as part of an effort to cut costs, the Financial Times reports.
“The past few years have brought new possibilities around the role of the office,”
-Meta
It comes after Big Tech invested in prime real estate in 2020 and 2021 as profits soared, but are now cutting back as stock prices have fallen.
Like other industries, the tech industry has also seen staff reluctant to return to the office full time after being fully remote during the pandemic.
This comes as a recent article by The Wall Street Journal showed that those born from 1997 onwards say they don't want to work in an office full time.
Tbh, what the "corporate" world doesn't understand- for young adults, their profession is more than their monthly paycheck. It's about purpose, flexibility and mobility.
The pandemic has not only made WFH the 'new normal' but it has also boosted the remote work paycheck.
The truth is- you can make A SH*TLOAD of money working from home 🏠
Our Thoughts💡: WFH has been great for us personally tbh- less commute time, a flexible schedule, a well-balanced diet of Doritos & 10 expressos a day..
Not to mention, the one MAJOR con of going back to the office: We'd have to start wearing pants again. FML
Pandemic: China's top health body stops publishing daily Covid case as infections soar.
This comes as China experiences an unprecedented wave following drastic easing of restrictions and strict lockdowns.
Key Highlights, according to CNN:
💡People in China are now using rapid antigen tests to detect infections and are under no obligation to report positive results
💡Health officials said they were seeing more than 1 million new cases a day
💡Officially, China has only reported 8 deaths this month as of December 22
💡This has been met with ridicule online, where posts mourning loved ones are rampant
Our Thoughts💡: BREAKING NEWS: Covid-19 surge in China unleashes new variant on the world- and it's 10x more contagious and lethal.
WTF IS THIS? A FAMILY GATHERING?!
Covid & fam coming to crush our 2023 plans 👇🏻
