Quick Bites:
Coffee ☕️ : Coffee because therapy’s too damn expensive..
Like it or not, Starbucks is urban America. The Seattle-based giant has ingrained itself in our daily lives one frothy macchiato at a time.
Starbucks just announced its founder Howard Schultz will return as Interim CEO, once again leading the company he grew from a local coffee roaster into a global chain, Bloomberg reports.
Believe it or not, there’s plenty of turf this new latte has yet to claim. Vast swaths of communities are still untouched by the iconic Starbucks Green-Siren logo.
This is exactly why Schultz has rejoined the board as the company faces rising costs and and a growing unionization movement.
“When you love something, you have a deep sense of responsibility to help when called,” Schultz said in the statement.
“Although I did not plan to return to Starbucks, I know the company must transform once again to meet a new and exciting future where all of our stakeholders mutually flourish.”
Our Thoughts💡: Our dopamine hits lately: Dominoes American Cheeseburger Pizza, Starbucks Oat Milk Lattes, Friends reruns and riding the subway.
PS. $6 bucks for a basic Oat Cappuccino?! Stay strong millennials 💪
Fashion 🧦 : Kim Kardashian's "SKIMS" clothing brand becomes one of TIME100 Most Influential Companies.
And to think it all started with a PG-13 tape with a C-list rapper. Glorious turn of events🙌🏻
The disruptive shapewear startup has become iconic for its made-to-fit-every-body-type image by promoting body positivity and inclusive sizing.
Enough to hit a $3.2bn valuation in January 2022. That's double of what it was 9 months before.
And yes, we didn't see that coming in the new year either.. 🤷🏻♀️
SKIMS sizes range from XXS through XXXXXL, and as reported by Time magazine, the garments can stretch to twice their original size.
The pieces are affordable, although Kim always hires “it” girls and supermodels, including Megan Fox, Kate Moss and and Paris Hilton, for the brand’s advertising campaigns.
Our Thoughts:
💡A DVD Diva
💡A Reality TV Star
💡A Cover Girl
💡A Beauty Mogul
💡A Fashion Designer
💡A MVP
We see you Kim K! As the billionaire herself says "not bad for a girl with no talent."
Not bad indeed! 💯
Sustainability ♻️ : The EU wants to put a stop to fast fashion with a new set of green regulations.
The bloc is proposing new rules to reduce textile waste and the destruction of unsold clothing- putting Europe at the forefront of sustainability, Politico reports.
Clothes used in Europe have on average the fourth highest impact on the climate, exceeded only by food, housing and transport.
For every person in the EU, textile consumption requires 9 cubic metres of water, 400 square metres of land and a carbon footprint of about 270kg, BBC reports.
It also says it will crack down on companies misleading consumers with false environmental claims.
"It's time to end the model of 'take, make, break, and thow away' that is so harmful to our planet"
-EU Commissioner
Climate Change 🌍 : Indonesia is replacing Jakarta with a new, zero-emissions "forest city."
The capital is home to over 10mn people and it's one of the world's fastest-sinking cities. At this rate, it is predicted to be submerged by 2050.
Planet Earth to Humans: You hear me now?! 🔈
According to The Globe and Mail, Jakarta has:
💡Chronic congestion due to traffic jams caused by overpopulation
💡Flooding is a key issue, with the most recent flood in 2020 causing an estimated loss of $70mn.
💡Jakarta also faces bad air quality; it is routinely ranked as one of the world's most polluted cities.
💡"Nusantara", the new capital, is set to be fully constructed by 2024
💡It will be a smart city with zero emissions
💡Usage of 80% renewable energy
💡Reliance on 80% public transit
💡A two degree drop in temperature
"We want to show the world that we can make a city that will tackle all issues of climate change"
For many people in Indonesia, the move feels unnecessarily rushed. Development of this new city means many indigenous people will leave their homes.
However, the threat of climate change is real- and this particular disease has been around a lot longer than Covid-19!
Ukraine 🇺🇦 | Russia 🇷🇺 : World leaders call for tougher sanctions against Russia as Ukrainian officials push for war crime investigations.
Ukraine has asked the International Criminal Court (ICC) to visit mass graves in Bucha, a suburb town northwest of Kyiv, to investigate evidence of possible Russian war crimes, according to AFP News.
French President Emmanuel Macron along with leaders from Germany, Poland and the UK have signaled a new round of sanctions against Russia.
Spanish PM says he has seen signs of a possible "genocide" in Ukraine as global outrage over civilian deaths take a toll.
Ukrainian President Zelenskiy has called the situation "concentrated evil."
Our Thoughts💡: No closed airspace, No fast-track European Union membership, No Ukrainian NATO alliance, No tougher stance on Putin.
Despite multinationals halting operations, the truth is that the mighty west has folded in the face of aggression faster than Hitler in 1939. Never again my a**
