The Chicken Wars 🐓
This Week in Review ☕️ : The Latest Limited Edition Snack | Pepsi vs Coke | The Sandwich Wars | Amazons Largest Acquisition | Pringles new collaboration with Wendys | Cloudy day on Mars | Switch Off
Quick Bites:
Media 🎥 : "The name's Bezos. James Bezos.."
Are you guys ready for James Bond reboots and Rocky spinoffs? Amazon buys historic MGM movie studios for $8.45bn.
Is it possible, and hear us out, Amazon just has too much cash in the bank?
Amazon out here buying MGM for $8bn when I can get the entire Bond franchise DVD Set Box for only 75 bucks
Think Big, Work Smart
The deal will give Amazon Prime viewers about 4,000 new movies and 17,000 new TV shows as the streaming wars heat up.
This will include the iconic James Bond franchise, Thelma and Louise, Rocky, Creed, Raging Bull and Reese Witherspoon's Legally Blonde.
We're already looking forward to their new Bond titles: "Die another Prime day"
This is Amazon's most ambitious move yet into the entertainment industry as it is the company's 2nd largest acquisition after Whole Foods in 2017.
The e-commerce giant's Top 5 largest acquisitions:
💡Whole Foods: $13.7bn
💡MGM Studios : $8.6bn
💡Zappos: $1.2bn
💡Zoox: $1.2bn
💡Twitch Interactive: $970mn
Our Thoughts💡: One of the oldest and most historic studios in Hollywood gets bought out by a Tech giant.
Hmm.. at what point is a company considered a monopoly?
PS. If we have Amazon Prime, can we get a discount at MGM in Vegas?
21st comin up 🥂
Marketing🥤: Pepsi claims it goes better with burgers than rival Coke in new campaign.
In the never-ending soda war, Pepsi launches smart campaign to win over customers and end Coke's decades-long supremacy in burger chains like Wendy's and McDonalds.
Critics claim this is the brand's best work in years, maybe entire history.
Over the years, fast-food lovers have had a very limited selection of beverage choices, restricting them from experiencing the superior Pepsi & Burger combo.
On National Hamburger Day last Friday, Pepsi took a stand by encouraging consumers to pair any burger of their choice with a Pepsi, on the house.
Furthermore, the company brilliantly incorporated the Pepsi logo on the burger wrappers in their ads.
Our Thoughts💡: Ok, we appreciate the effort but let's be honest- Coke is classic.
No one asks for a Rum and Pepsi. Just like no one asks for a Cheeseburger and Pepsi.
Coke is where the fizz is at. Coca-Cola classic 🥤
Speaking of Wars 🍗 : If the soda wars weren't enough, prepare yourself for the poultry wars upon us. Whose Rooster will reign supreme?
A Food War is brewing between the heavyweights of fast-food chains from McDonald's, KFC, Burger King to Popeyes, Carls Jr and Chick-fil-A.
The battle for Chicken dominance is in full swing and everyone wants in on the cash grab.
Which, tbh, is fantastic news for anyone who loves fried chicken but still has an obesity wish.
2021 has seen some of the biggest companies make their move in the "crispy chicken" category with their own bigger and better versions on their menus.
And, believe it or not, the social media frenzy is absolutely real. #WhatATimeToBeAlive
Burger King joins the game this month with it's new "hand-breaded Ch'King" Sandwich. Buy one and get a free Whopper to go with it.
Taco Bell brings back a fan favorite- "the Naked Chicken Chalupa" to distinguish itself in what it calls "the sea of chicken sandwich sameness", Adweek reports.
"When everyone is a sandwich, it's better to be a taco"
-Taco Bell
Pringles has teamed up with Wendy's in a new limited-edition snack: A unique chip flavor that tastes just just like Wendys' Spicy Chicken Sandwich.
That sounds kinda umm, delicious.
We also hear Popeyes is returning to the battlefield very soon with a new Blackened Chicken Sandwich!
Our Thoughts💡: The only good thing about having a job remotely related to marketing is having an in-depth, informed (borderline academic) opinion on the Sandwich wars.
PS. Why do people underestimate the Toasted Bun?! It's all about the fluffy, sweet, golden bun- from a squidgy dull bap to a gleaming brioche.
Mental Health 🧠 : Do we have the right to disconnect?
While people enjoyed less commute time and a flexible schedule, research also shows WFH led to longer hours.
With office centricity gone, so are the midday Starbucks Frappuccino runs.
In the current WFH environment, the expectation to always be available online is causing burnout.
Now, European countries are pushing for laws that would give people the right to switch off, BBC reports
According to BBC:
💡Ireland’s new "Covid-19 Conscious Code" gives workers the right to not work outside normal working hours
💡Dutch MPs are hoping to implement a legal “right to disconnect” that would prevent employers from contacting employees out of hours
💡Argentina and France both already have “right to disconnect” laws
Our Thoughts💡: Tbh, #WFH has definitely blurred the boundaries between work and personal space. We struggle to plug out too.
However, a well-balanced diet of vanilla cupcakes & 10 expressos a day has definitely helped.

Space 🚀 :NASA's Curiosity rover captures photos of shining clouds on Mars.
Martian clouds. Wow.
"These are 'night-shining' clouds [..] made of dry ice. Their crystals cause them to glow against the darkening sky"
-NASA Curiosity Rover
The Red Planet doesn't have too many cloudy days so these images were a pleasant surprise to geologists all over the world.
Sometimes we forget there's a little robot rolling around alone on Mars.
Our Thoughts💡: Tbh, looks like the background for mortal combat annihilation. Makes you appreciate the clouds on Earth so much more, right?
