Quick Bites:
Big Tech📱: Last week, Elon Musk confirmed he would go ahead and buy Twitter for $44bn.
$44 billion?! Guess the dude makes his coffee and avo toast at home 🥑
On another note, Elon now owns Twitter, Bezos owns the Washington Post, Bill Gates has invested over $300mn in media platforms and Mark Zuckerberg owns WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook aka our entire effing life. Free speech? MY A** 👋
After confirming the purchase, Musk tweeted "Buying Twitter is an accelerant to creating X, the everything app"
Musk didn't elaborate further like most of his bizarre tweets, but its clear the Tony Stark wannabe has his eyes on building a multi-purpose app that offers "everything".
A good example is China's WeChat, which Musk is openly a fan of.
WeChat is arguably the most popular, boasting over 1 billion users.
Owned by Tencent, WeChat is a kind of "super app" with many different services including messaging, ride-hailing, gaming, payments and food delivery, Bloomberg reports.
It's unclear whether Musk wants to convert Twitter into X or create an entirely new super app.
Our Thoughts💡: While there is no super-app in the West yet, a quick look at Elon's endeavors might change your mind:
💡Smokes weed on Youtube publicly and SpaceX gets a $3bn contract to to go the moon for it
💡Space joy rides for the filthy rich
💡Self-driving cars
💡Underground trains
💡Amber Heard for an ex
💡Buys Twitter just to install an 'edit' button
Seems like there's little this man cannot do. Y'all ready for that SUPER DUPER app?!
WFH 🧦: Has WFH changed your office wardrobe?
While casual clothing has been the norm in the tech sector for years, lockdowns made it the new normal for all working from home, irrespective of the industry, BBC.
But now, as workers return to the office, how is to one dress after 2 years of daily PJs & Pizza?
Bosses, who could set the tone for the rest of their team, are facing a "wardrobe dilemma", according to BBC.
To be honest, the pandemic saw an exploding market for sweatpants.
About as essential as the Banana Bread starter kit and Hand-sanitizer, sweats became the official #WFH uniform.
However, as in-person events and offices finally open this year, the latest work trend this year has come to be 'Bleisure':
According to Fortune, a combination of business and leisure dubbed 'bleisure' is the new work uniform.
Easier said than done @FortuneMagazine. How does one strike a balance between hoodie & sneakers AND a pinstripe suit…?! 🤔
Our Thoughts💡: Personally, we didn't need a global pandemic to witness the end of the corporate dream.
As soon as Brooks Brothers' bankruptcy filing in 2020, it was clear to us that sweatpants+Netflix+the couch killed GenZ-ers long before Covid hit town!
Leisure 🍸 : Turns out the World's Best Bar is hidden beyond a Pastrami shop!
The Best Bar in the World 2022 goes to Barcelona's 'Paradiso', according to Conde Nast Traveller.
This is the first time the winner has been awarded to a bar outside of London or New York.
The hidden bar's entrance is a white door after which visitors pass a counter selling cured meat.
Located in the El Born neighborhood of Barcelona, Paradiso features a dramatic, arched wooden ceiling and delicious cocktails like Smoked Milk Punch with Bourbon and Yahini, Bloomberg Pursuits reports.
The Top Ten Bars globally, according to Conde Nast Traveller:
💡Paradiso, Barcelona
💡Tayer+Elementary, London
💡Sips, Barcelona
💡Licoreria Limantour, Mexico City
💡Little Red Door, Paris
💡Double Chicken Please, New York
💡Two Schmucks, Barcelona
💡Connaught Bar, London
💡Katana Kitten, New York
💡Alquimico, Cartagena
Culture ☕️ : Women workers 'twice as likely as men to be asked to make the tea', The Independent reports.
Office "housework" like making tea and fetching biscuits often falls to women, research suggests.
According to a survey of 2,000 UK employees, women were more than twice as likely to be asked to do admin/minuscule tasks or be the target of sexist jokes.
This becomes a part of a wider conversation about gender bias in the office.
The fact is that no matter how hard we try, unconscious biases influence a majority of our daily decisions.
Our brains can consciously process 40 pieces of information per second while it can unconsciously process 11 MILLION pieces, Forbes
Which is why, raising awareness of the unconscious bias is the first step to creating a more inclusive workplace.
On a more positive note, the majority of workers who were surveyed said they have begun to address this behavior.
Many are also keen for employers to provide more training on bias in the workplace, according to the Independent.
