Our new tool this February 2022: Heyday
We keep a million tabs open while writing our newsletter for y'all, but always forget why we have some tabs open in the first place!
Heydayโs browser extension has allowed usย to shut those tabs (thank f**king god) by automaticallyย savingย theย content and resurfacingย it when weย need it.
Give your memory a boost TODAY! ( Oh, and the first 14 days are FREE ๐ฅ )
Quick Bites:
Big Tech ๐ฑ:ย Meta (a.k.a the new Facebook) is dying.
Metaโs share price plunged over 26% last week, wiping out US$230bn.
This is theย biggest one-day wipeout of any USย company in stock market history!
Damn, a few in the world like Zuckerbergย can lose $30bnย and still remain multi-billionaires๐
Personally, we're thrilled. Any tech firmย that helped Donald Trump get electedย needs to crash.
A bad day for FBย is a GREAT day for democracy! ๐
Key Highlights, according to The Washington Post:
๐กFacebook's daily active users fell for the 1st time in its 18-year history
๐กIt lost half a million users in Q4 of 2021;ย โsuggesting the companyโs product is saturated globally.โ
๐กInstagram and WhatsApp are growing- but not by much. The company just added 10mn users across all of its apps in the last quarter
๐กMeta lost $10bn on its Reality Labs division, which handles VR and AR
๐กIt is expected thatย Appleโs App Tracking Transparency feature will hit this yearโs revenue by $10bn, or about 10%
๐กTough competition with TikTok. โPeople have a lot of choices for how they want to spend their time, and apps like TikTok are growing very quickly.โ
-Mark Zuckerbergย
Our Thoughts๐ก: 5 compellingย reasons why Facebook and MetaVerse Mark areย in the pits:
1. Noone
2. Gives
3. A
4. F**king
5. Shit
Fashion ๐ :ย While Uggs won't cost you much financially, they might cost you your social status-ย at least, until 2022.ย
Decker Outdoors- the maker of Uggs, Teva and Hoka (a.k.a "the ugly shoe empire") has experienced a record sales year.
The footwear conglomerate delivered its largest quarter in history for Q3 2022 despite ongoing supply-chain issues.
The company is expected to make $3bn in revenue this year.
As a Brooklyn bartender told Bloomberg, โI feel like ugly things always come back to be cool in the end.โ
Deckers CEO Dave Powers says he is not concerned with "the ugly moniker" as "you're owning something distinct."
Love it or hate it, there's definitely a market for "ugly". The more clunky, clompy and clacky the shoe, the more we want them.
You no longer need to reserve your Hoka Dad sneakers or hideous clogs for alone time or doing yard work! Ugly is in ๐ฏ
Our Thoughts๐ก:ย We have bedroom Uggs, garden Uggs, Ugg slippers, leather Uggs for style and sequins Disco Uggs for nights out.. but we wouldn't say we're a fan.๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ
Also, according to our company policy, Uggs are acceptable as part of the Work-from-Home attire ๐
Sports ๐ฟ : Calling all ski fans AND snow lovers!
Will Winter Olympics be possible in the 22nd century?
According to a study, Rising temperatures due to climate change could threaten the future games as cities will struggle to find enough snow and ice.
Only one of 21 previous Winter Olympics locations would be able to host the Games if the climate crisis continues, according to The Guardian.
Only Albertville in France, which hosted the 1992 edition, could organize thisย in the Alps around 2050-ย if the world reduced greenhouse gas emissions in line with the Paris Climate Agreement.
This news comes just as Beijing prepares for the 2022 Games this week- the 1st Winter Olympics to rely entirely on artificial snow.
The Chinese hillsย are snow-free, so 49 million gallons of chemically-treated water and 300 snow guns have been used for athletes to compete.
Planet Earth to Humans: You hear me now?! ๐
Unbelievable,ย right?! Imagine we could lose the mostย prestigious celebration of the winterย (also, the only time to binge onย cheese fondue and hot chocolate- complete with toasted marshmallows, meringue and whipped cream- ALL in the name of sports! ๐ )ย
One more reason to act fast against climate change! ๐
Our Thoughts๐ก: Meanwhile, Barack Obama is building a multi-million dollar oceanfront mansion in Hawaii.
For someone who constantly rants about the climate, he sure likes buying real estate right by the water.
Mental Health ๐ง :ย Prince Harry is urging employers to give staff more time to focus on their mental health, as he opened upย about his own struggles with burnout.
Ok.. we still haven't figured out what Prince Harry gets burnout from? ๐ค
As part of his work for wellbeing app BetterUp, The Duke of Sussex advisedย bosses to include:
๐กRegular breaks
๐กCreate an environment where workers feel safe to ask for help
๐กOfferย wellbeing tech; meditation apps/online therapy
๐กWorkers be given time to do 'inner work' and enjoyย 'me-time'
Alternatively, you could just ask for annual leave like most people have done for centuries lmao
Our Thoughts๐ก:ย Hmm..ย Prince Harry sayingย "every single person has access to @BetterUpโ sounds more like he's using his royal status to sellย a $279 per-month app for his own gain..ย which is now ruining our mental health ๐
