Our new tool this February 2022: Heyday
We keep a million tabs open while writing our newsletter for y'all, but always forget why we have some tabs open in the first place!
Heyday’s browser extension has allowed us to shut those tabs (thank f**king god) by automatically saving the content and resurfacing it when we need it.
Give your memory a boost TODAY! ( Oh, and the first 14 days are FREE 🥂 )
Quick Bites:
Big Tech 📱: Meta (a.k.a the new Facebook) is dying.
Meta’s share price plunged over 26% last week, wiping out US$230bn.
This is the biggest one-day wipeout of any US company in stock market history!
Damn, a few in the world like Zuckerberg can lose $30bn and still remain multi-billionaires🙈
Personally, we're thrilled. Any tech firm that helped Donald Trump get elected needs to crash.
A bad day for FB is a GREAT day for democracy! 🎉
Key Highlights, according to The Washington Post:
💡Facebook's daily active users fell for the 1st time in its 18-year history
💡It lost half a million users in Q4 of 2021; “suggesting the company’s product is saturated globally.”
💡Instagram and WhatsApp are growing- but not by much. The company just added 10mn users across all of its apps in the last quarter
💡Meta lost $10bn on its Reality Labs division, which handles VR and AR
💡It is expected that Apple’s App Tracking Transparency feature will hit this year’s revenue by $10bn, or about 10%
💡Tough competition with TikTok. “People have a lot of choices for how they want to spend their time, and apps like TikTok are growing very quickly.”
-Mark Zuckerberg
Our Thoughts💡: 5 compelling reasons why Facebook and MetaVerse Mark are in the pits:
1. Noone
2. Gives
3. A
4. F**king
5. Shit
Fashion 👟 : While Uggs won't cost you much financially, they might cost you your social status- at least, until 2022.
Decker Outdoors- the maker of Uggs, Teva and Hoka (a.k.a "the ugly shoe empire") has experienced a record sales year.
The footwear conglomerate delivered its largest quarter in history for Q3 2022 despite ongoing supply-chain issues.
The company is expected to make $3bn in revenue this year.
As a Brooklyn bartender told Bloomberg, “I feel like ugly things always come back to be cool in the end.”
Deckers CEO Dave Powers says he is not concerned with "the ugly moniker" as "you're owning something distinct."
Love it or hate it, there's definitely a market for "ugly". The more clunky, clompy and clacky the shoe, the more we want them.
You no longer need to reserve your Hoka Dad sneakers or hideous clogs for alone time or doing yard work! Ugly is in 💯
Our Thoughts💡: We have bedroom Uggs, garden Uggs, Ugg slippers, leather Uggs for style and sequins Disco Uggs for nights out.. but we wouldn't say we're a fan.🤷🏻♀️
Also, according to our company policy, Uggs are acceptable as part of the Work-from-Home attire 🙏
Sports 🎿 : Calling all ski fans AND snow lovers!
Will Winter Olympics be possible in the 22nd century?
According to a study, Rising temperatures due to climate change could threaten the future games as cities will struggle to find enough snow and ice.
Only one of 21 previous Winter Olympics locations would be able to host the Games if the climate crisis continues, according to The Guardian.
Only Albertville in France, which hosted the 1992 edition, could organize this in the Alps around 2050- if the world reduced greenhouse gas emissions in line with the Paris Climate Agreement.
This news comes just as Beijing prepares for the 2022 Games this week- the 1st Winter Olympics to rely entirely on artificial snow.
The Chinese hills are snow-free, so 49 million gallons of chemically-treated water and 300 snow guns have been used for athletes to compete.
Planet Earth to Humans: You hear me now?! 🔊
Unbelievable, right?! Imagine we could lose the most prestigious celebration of the winter (also, the only time to binge on cheese fondue and hot chocolate- complete with toasted marshmallows, meringue and whipped cream- ALL in the name of sports! 😋 )
One more reason to act fast against climate change! 🙏
Our Thoughts💡: Meanwhile, Barack Obama is building a multi-million dollar oceanfront mansion in Hawaii.
For someone who constantly rants about the climate, he sure likes buying real estate right by the water.
Mental Health 🧠 : Prince Harry is urging employers to give staff more time to focus on their mental health, as he opened up about his own struggles with burnout.
Ok.. we still haven't figured out what Prince Harry gets burnout from? 🤔
As part of his work for wellbeing app BetterUp, The Duke of Sussex advised bosses to include:
💡Regular breaks
💡Create an environment where workers feel safe to ask for help
💡Offer wellbeing tech; meditation apps/online therapy
💡Workers be given time to do 'inner work' and enjoy 'me-time'
Alternatively, you could just ask for annual leave like most people have done for centuries lmao
Our Thoughts💡: Hmm.. Prince Harry saying "every single person has access to @BetterUp” sounds more like he's using his royal status to sell a $279 per-month app for his own gain.. which is now ruining our mental health 😠
