Women & Weight-Loss🏋🏻♀️
This Week in Review ☕️ : Medication to fight heart disease and suicidal thoughts | Diet Sodas ruin health by 20% | The world-famous Body Shop files for bankruptcy | Ramadan starts this week for many |
Quick Bites:
Health 💊: Wegovy approved for heart health.
The sensational weight-loss drug has been approved by the FDA to fight heart disease, instead of just obesity, CNBC reports.
A little tip💡: Anyone taking this poison should always carry an extra pair of undies and a roll of toilet paper in their bag 💩
Background💡: As of today, the maker of Ozempic and Wegovy "Novo Nordisk" is the most valuable company in Europe.
With a market cap surpassing $550+ billion, the Danish drugmaker overtook LVMH, which held the #1 spot since 2021.
Y'all think the Ozempic miracle is that you can lose all your flab and prevent a heart stroka via a few injections? 🤔
The real miracle is that it's generating an 85% gross profit margin and single-handedly stopping Denmark form going into a full-blown recession.
The company who makes it, is worth more than Denmark🫢
Key Highlights, according to CNBC:
💡Weekly injections of Wegovy cut the overall risk of heart attack, stroke and death by 20%, according to a landmark late-stage trial on the drug
💡Wegovy has a retail price of $1,350 a month
💡The expanded approval is important as it could widen insurance for the costly injection, which has been a major barrier to access for lower-income patients
💡Wegovy and Ozempic also are being studied to help fight alcohol addiction, as well as suicidal thoughts
However, the FDA has also said that Wegovy patients should use the drug in addition to a reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity.
Umm no shit, one does not simply pop a bill, chow down a box of Krispy Kreme, not exercise and still lose weight🙄
Tbh, a part of us can understand the crazy demand. We're not big on exercise either.. we've never run a marathon or anything, but this ONE time we did sprint across the parking lot bc McDonalds breakfast was about to close 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
Our Easter wishlist:
💡Apple Vision Pro
💡The new Xbox
💡Nike Air Force 1s
💡Wegovy
💡A Rolex watch
💡A lobotomy
💡Lexapro
Our Thoughts💡: We don't need medication or personal trainers as much as we need someone to follow us around and slap cookies out of our hand.
PS. We been on a diet for 2 weeks and all we've lost is 14 days 😫😫
Work 💻 : More women are working today.
The share of women in the global workforce has exceeded pre-Covid levels. Rates for men have not increased at the same pace, Axios writes.
#WHORUNTHEWORLD 🔥
The truth is that women are over it..👋 Just over being the sperm bucket for men and men are staggered, STAGGERED WE TELL YOU, as to why we no longer want to sit home and serve them at the cost of our ambition and careers 🖕🏻
Key Highlights, according to Axios:
💡Remote work has drawn more women into the workforce
💡Hybrid schedules has made work more flexible, allowing women to manage their home life and work
💡The cost of living is rising globally due to high inflation and interest rates, putting pressure on families for women to participate
Men are still working at higher rates in every country.
However, that's partly because women are working in (unpaid) ways that don't show up in the official government data
The women's participation rate in the US is low compared to other countries such as the EU, Japan and Australia. This is primarily due to a lack of affordable child care, as well as paid parental and family leave.
Food & Beverage🥤: Diet sodas boost risk of dangerous heart condition by 20%, CNN reports.
Umm sugar causes diabetes. We f**ked either way 🤷🏻♀️
Also, major news alert guys💡: Ain't NOBODY gettin' outta this life alive
Key Highlights, according to CNN:
💡Drinking 2 litres or more of diet drinks per week raised the risk of an irregular heartbeat called "atrial fibrillation" by 20%
💡Drinking the same amount of added-sugar beverages raised the risk of the condition by 10%
💡Meanwhile, drinking around 120ml of freshly squeezed juices, such as an orange or green juice, infact lowered the risk by 8%
“Water is the best choice, and, based on this study, no- and low-calorie sweetened beverages should be limited or avoided”
-American Heart Association
When you drink water with a splash of lemon after drowning your liver in Don Julio and Coke the night before 👇🏻
Our Thoughts💡:
Umm we're aware how unhealthy artificially drinks are.. BUT us with a Diet Coke is 100% less likely to start a brawl in public ☺️
Retail 🧼: The cult-favorite Body Shop is filing for bankruptcy.
The British beauty brand has shut down its US operations and is closing dozens of stores in Canada amid deep financial struggles.
It's the latest victim of high inflation that has specifically hurt "mall stores" that cater to middle-income shoppers, CNN reports.
Key Highlights, according to AP News:
💡The Body Shop was first sold to L'Oreal for more than $1 billion back in 2006
💡A decade later in 2017, it was sold to Brazilian cosmetics company 'Natura' for about the same amount
💡In late 2023, it was sold to 'Aurelius', an private equity firm that specializes in turning around financially troubled companies, in a deal valued at $261 million
💡The soaps, cream and cosmetics chain was founded in 1976 by environmental activist Anita Roddick.
💡It was one of the first companies to ban animal testing of its products and promote ethical practices.
💡The brand became a massive hit in the 1980s, when it listed on the London Stock Exchange, and grew to have over 2,500 stores across +80 countries
Religion🌙 : Ramadan 2024 fasting starts this week for many.
The crescent moon was spotted on Sunday night in Saudi Arabia, home to the holiest sites in Islam, marking the beginning of Ramadan for many of the world’s 1.8 billion Muslims, CNBC reports.
Seeing the moon on Sunday meant Monday was the first day of the fasting month.
Key Highlights, according to CNBC:
💡Those who practice abstain from eating any food and drinking water from sunrise to sunset
💡The fast also doesn't allow smoking cigarettes or engage in any sexual activity. That includes taking medication (even if you a swallow a pill dry, without water)
💡During Ramadan, those observing typically break their fast with a date and water, following the tradition set by the Prophet Muhammad
💡They will then indulge in an “iftar,” or a large meal, followed by a pre-dawn meal, or “suhoor,” to manage fasting during the day
Ramadan marks a period of religious worship, family time and giving across the Muslim world.
Fasting is meant to be a private act of worship bringing about nearness to God, as well as a means to empathize with those less means.
After the Saudi state television reported that authorities there saw the crescent moon, other Gulf Arab countries followed.
Iraq, Syria and Egypt followed the announcement to confirm they as well would start fasting on Monday.
