Quick Bites:
Social Media📱: TikTok loses bid to overturn ban.
A federal appeals court has ruled that TikTok has to sell the app by January 19 or face a ban.
The government claims it is "acting solely to protect Americans from a foreign adversary nation."
DOJ: We can't let TikTok spy on US citizens. That's our job.
Umm we're worried they'll try to ban X next. We're a collection of free thinking, high IQ individuals united against hate and facism. We're basically Biden's worst enemy. If he bans TikTok he's coming for us next 🤯
Key Highlights, reported by CNN:
💡Chinese parent-company ByteDance has until January 19, 2025 to sell and find a buyer
💡After the deadline, US app stores like Apple could face massive fines for hosting TikTok if it is not sold
💡If TikTok is unable to successfully appeal or sell, the ban could go into effect one day before the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump
💡Although it was Trump who first tried to ban the app during his previous term, he claimed this June that he would "never ban TikTok"
💡More than 170 million Americans use TikTok, and just 32% of US adults support a ban, according to a recent Pew survey
💡The fight could now head to the US Supreme Court from the federal court
Our Thoughts💡:
Therapist: And what do we do when we feel like this?
Us: redownload Tinder and TikTok to feel validated by strangers?
Therapist: No.
Also, just a thought💡:
The fact that they won't try and pass an actual American data privacy bill that protects user data and instead tries to ban the apps that aren't based in America is proof that this banning TikTok thing has never actually been about protecting citizens 🤔🤔
Food 🍛 : Global food prices hit almost 2-year high, according to United Nation's Food & Agriculture Organization.
Meanwhile 54% of the younger generation claim that Food costs are the biggest burden on their finances, according to CNBC.
“Everyone needs to eat, and anything above microwave ramen is a small joy that was accessible to many without breaking the bank. Now, not so much.”
Rich people splurging💡: F**k it, let's buy a yacht
Us splurging💡: F**k it, we'll order the Nicoise salad
Leading the charge? World vegetable oil prices, particularly palm oil, which has gone up 6 straight months because of a supply shortage following extreme rainfall in Asia.
The FAO Food Price Index reached 127.5 points in November 2024; "The index stands at its highest level since April 2023, but is still significantly below March 2022 after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine."
The increase was driven by higher prices for dairy products and vegetable oils including rapeseed, soy and sunflower seed oils, despite declines in meat, cereals, and sugar.
Doug McMillon, CEO of Walmart, America's biggest food retailer, has already warned that he expects food inflation to continue well into 2025.
Our Thoughts💡: Guys, you don't need to skip your breakfast to save more in this economy. You need to skip breakfast AND lunch.

Entertainment❌: Jay-Z accused in a civil lawsuit of raping a 13-year old girl in 2000 along with Sean 'Diddy' combs.
Jay-Z responded with a lengthy statement calling the allegations "idiotic."
Looks like the 100th problem has entered the chat @JayZ
Key Highlights, reported by NBC News:
💡The accuser is anonymous and only identifies herself as "Jane Doe"
💡She claims the incident happened after she was driven to an MTV Music Awards afterparty, where she had to sign a a nondisclosure agreement on arrival. The party was filled with celebrities and people doing marijuana and cocaine
💡She was offered a drink that made her feel “woozy, lightheaded and felt like she needed to lie down”, so she went to a room to rest
💡The lawsuit then says: Jay Z raped the girl while Diddy and a female friend watched
💡After Jay Z was done, Diddy raped the girl while the other two watched
💡The accuser says that she was able to resist performing oral sex on Diddy by hitting him in the neck and that he “stopped.”
💡After they were done, she “grabbed her clothes” and left. She made her way to a gas station, where she called her father
💡The accuser is seeking unspecified damages
💡The federal lawsuit was originally filed in October in New York, listing Combs as a defendant. It was refiled on Sunday to include Jay Z
Jay Z's response💡:
"These allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one!"
“You have made a terrible error in judgement thinking that all ‘celebrities’ are the same”
“I’m not from your world. I’m a young man who made it out of the project of Brooklyn. We have very strict codes and honor. We protect children.”
"My only heartbreak is for my family"
Our Thoughts💡: If Jay Z doesn't get sued by a bunch of women and wins this case, it'll show the world just how sensationalised celebrity lawsuits are. People believe every word of the suits these days and it's crazy. Just bc you get sued doesn't mean its true. The keyword here is "accused" folks.. aka innocent until proven guilty.
But if it is true then.. We just wanna say:
Sticking with a man accused of child rape is a CHOICE. This is not 1930 and divorce is NOT a taboo. You are not strong for weathering another scandal. This is NOT just a scandal. Wake the f**k up.
We just wanna shake some sense into Beyonce before her momma tells her to stay 👋👋👋
Work 💻 : More parents pushed out of work as finding childcare becomes increasingly hard.
New research shows that the number of people who missed work or quit entirely because of childcare has jumped to 19% since before the pandemic.
Hardest hit are mothers with very young kids.
Ofc women are hit the hardest and the truth is that women are over it.. Just over being the sperm bucket for men and men are staggered, STAGGERED WE TELL YOU, as to why we no longer want to sit home and serve them at the cost of our ambition and careers 🖕🏻
Key Highlights, reported by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago:
💡Mothers living with a child under 5 years are more than twice as likely to be childcare-affected than mothers living with children who are 5 and older
💡These mothers are also twice as likely to be affected than fathers living with children of any age
💡This can create long-term barriers to career advancement for those women
💡Businesses, too, are suffering, with many saying they're struggling to hire because candidates can't find affordable or reliable child care
Culture📸: The world is seeing a rise of the $1,000 family portrait, The Atlantic reports.
We all take so many photos and post it on Instagram that our generation has coined the term "photo dump."
Infact, anyone can take a great photo with their iPhone today so then why are so many parents spending hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars to get the perfect family portrait?
According to the Professional Photographers of America, nearly 40% of families who get their picture taken spend more than $1,000 on a photo shoot.
As a result, the professional photography industry is booming. The number of working photographers is up 15% in the past decade, with an elite few charging more than $4,000 for that perfect shot.
Our Thoughts: It’s clear that people still value the art of curated, high-quality images over the convenience of a quick mobile phone shot.
Social media hasn’t just changed how we share photos- it’s changed why we take them. Family portraits aren’t just for private albums anymore; they’re curated images for public consumptiom.
In reality, the pressure to present a picture-perfect family life online is what's driving this demand.
